Is this not the problem? No depth perception?

I have been in a seminar where this was also discussed and it has been proven to be bad for the eyes.

The other lot are men who drive Hilux's or Rangers, they are agro, if they have a Monster sticker or EFC T-shirt it's worse.

Hey watch it! I drive a Hilux...........luckily no Monster sticker but I do have one of these on mine

I don't fear taxis, even though there are some idiots. They do have a blatant disregard of the law, but usually seem aware of their surroundings. If you engage with them, they can even be cool and let you go first etc...

The people I do fear are women in expensive SUVs because they are on their phones the whole time very unaware of their surroundings. The other lot are men who drive Hilux's or Rangers, they are agro, if they have a Monster sticker or EFC T-shirt it's worse.

Add to that, that alot of them dont really understand the size and dimensions of SUVs.

i have found that the taxis on the kommetjie road are worse than most others.  But agree with the other, generally taxis are better than most SUV, BUS & TRUCK drivers.

we rode  as clever as we could opposite flow to the traffic and the most important thing he taught me about commutes, road riding was simple  MAKE EYE CONTACT if you dont assume he didnt see you

howzeeet DIPS, riding against traffic flow?? On the side of the road or off the road on the pavement?

I live near a taxi rank in the bustling metropolis of Magalies so it might be because some of the guys know me from when I go running or cycling by etc but they are the only ones who ever really stop at the railway line to let me get to the other side of the road. I tend to find white females are the worst for not stopping and for generally always being on a phone.

I had a taxi try to squeeze past me today (came within a foot of me) and I waved my hand at him to get back. He honked at me so I gave him the finger and told him to f off. Wasn't the smartest thing to do, but I survived.

If its not taxi drivers who just appear ignorant of the rules, its students who are too distracted and don't give way at four way stops, or its entitled rich pricks in SUVs who feel they can drive wherever and however they want.

Oh something that gets me also: drivers (especially taxis) who don't give way to pedestrians when turning. Or is it really that traffic gets right of way here?

The problem with taxi's are that the way the drivers drive in town, is exactly how they drive in the townships. In the townships they just stop in the middle of the road, or wherever. Or they just pull over where they want. Everyone else (pedestrians, other road users) must think for them, anticipating the results of the driver's actions. They just cannot foresee the consequences of their actions because they have a total disregard of any rules and regulations. They know they are untouchable (or so they think). Intellectually deprived...

They bring the same disregard into a setting that more or less abide to the rules they ignore..

remember IRON on the hub???? i used to commute with him he was brilliant at getting us to a point without going with the " main flow" of traffic,,,few roads down,,few walk ways even though we rode in peak hour in the mornings and night, he had routes around the main traffic areas,,,,,

Taxis are not the main problem. Problem is people on their phones. People who bitch and moan about lawlessness but drive fancy cars and couldn't be bothered to use a hands free kit.

If you drive while holding a phone you are the lawbreaker so shut up about corruption, taxis and the general crime rate. Bad driving kills more people than guns or violent robbery. Get your head out of your butt and focus.

Sorry for the rant.

Didn't you know, rules only apply to other people....

In the same breath, we cannot moan about cars on phones if we jump red lights.....

A disregard for rules is why societies break down.
