Hi guys,

I know there will be plenty of views on this subject, which is great. If your doing Stage races and can be in the saddle for 4-7hrs a day, but cant afford Assos( because you would rather pay to do the stage ride :-) What would be your choice based on your own experience. Budget R1000/R1500

Assos, Assos, Assos. I have been riding these for 9 years. I have never paid more than 1500 for a pair. I keep my eyes peeled for local specials, especially on the old model when new ranges are introduced.

These bibs last forever as long as you wash them in a small washing bag (to prevent stretching) and dry them in the shade. My current pairs are 4 years old and feel like they were bought yesterday.

I have never compromised on a good helmet (safety) good shorts (comfort) and good shoes (comfort and efficiency) so that I can just concentrate on the ride.

Go on. Spoil yourself. It's worth it.

I went with Rapid Sports around R 550 to R 900. Awesome value, good fit and good for 12 to 16 hour audax rides.

Biggest issue is make sure any and all bibs fit correctly, otherwise the are k@k no matter the price.

Shorts or bibs?

Because I ride most of the time (enduro's and normal MTBing) without bibs (yes done stage race distances like that too), just baggies and normal underwear. No problem.

Only time I ride with bibs is on the road bike.

I hate F-tech bibs! And I have sadly 3 of the things.

My fav pair is my Anatomic one (because it is the only proper lady 'short leg' cut I have I guess), but the overall fit is the best and have last super long....

.......cant speak for men bums though!

Thanks for the response guys and Gal, Some great options.. I like my Indola also, not happy with Cape Storm, most of my shorts are for road, so my ass has been taking a beating of late. The craft look like a good option. Every time I look at Solomons, they have great prices but you cant get online, painful I tell you. or I would probably have a few pairs of Assos by now(do the cheapest of Assos still give comfort with TITS). Never heard of Bicycle-Line, there's  also the guys that advertise on The Bike Hub like shopetcsa, they look nice, also Tungha... anyone try these, would we be supporting local trade..?
