I see another sh!tstorm brewing. Apparently Sanparks are after some cash as cyclists were 'encroaching' on Sanparks land at the Bar One stop. Sanparks wants R140 from the Cycle Trust for each rider that crossed the chalk line.

Mmm... And who were the guys who said cancel the 2015 event and donate our entry fee towards the fire disaster... Just a thought SANParks

Stop pulling my leg!

Its not a new **** storm. Its been brewing for years.

TMNP/SANPARKS wants a few million every year for use of their land, especially for water tables. So the CTCT moved one or two to minimize their 'land use' and this was their response. #childish

The weather certainly helped bunches move at a higher average speed. There was a bit of wind but it only became a factor if you were solo or in a small group where you would be more exposed.

Compared to 2009, the winning time is about 10 min faster in 2016 but slower than 2011(2:32).

I think the reduced number of sub 3 times is more linked to the reduction in available fun rides. People are less prepared with less bunch riding skills. This contributes to lower average speeds with the exception being the elites

I think the seeding is a bit stuffed up too. The groups were too mixed and catching up and merging caused a lot if congestion from Kalk Bay to Smits and slowed things down.

It was actually good going over Boyes drive as it sorted the groups out a bit.

Lucky CTCTT have better lawyers than SANPARKS. If I was them, I would not worry about a white line and stop 15 year old girls being murdered on your property.

I hate to ask, but were there "topless ladies" dancing at the bottom of Suikerbossie this year?

I saw the guy in a borat costume at Smits, the thingy about topless dancing, is it may be a quick 5 min thing, if done at all. I cannot imagine anyone would sit at the side of the road dancing, let alone topless for 6 hours :P

The boyes drive road is now not in an amazing state and would probably cause more congestion on the down hill bit and right turn. The coast  road is much safer.

Seeding, with an event of this size, its really difficult to seed 35 odd thousand people when only 10k do a seeding event during the year. Then you get all the okes/chikitas complaining they can race for a sub 3 and get reseeded and end up with a 3:25 :/

Not going to lie, but I thought the route always goes over Boyes Drive. Never occurred to me that it was actually a temporary route.

The cycling gods were on my side today:

  • On the fast descent to Misty Cliffs, guy next to me told me to shift to the small ring at the front. I had no idea what he was on about until I looked down and noticed my chain had dropped off and was hanging down around my pedal. Shifted to small chain ring and it popped back on! Learnt something new today. If he hadn't said anything I probably would have stopped to sort the chain out. A huge thank you to the guy in red with the skull and crossbones cycling shirt
  • Broke a spoke, after the finish line
  • Did a PB of 3:24

I had said that that to atleast 3 other riders on the day
