so is buying and selling for profit a "thing" now on the hub?

I remember when joining a few years ago that it was a place to find decent deals on good condition kit to build or upgrade your own bike, or to let go of items you have laying around that are surplus without reaming the buyer. Now it seems that when good deals come along they are snapped within seconds and a few days later appear for sale again at a much higher price.

Please point out if im wrong or treading on thin ice but i dont think its how it is supposed to be

Take some screenshots would be interesting to see who's doing this, one or many?

Can't stop people doing it. But it's got to be a really good deal to make up for the time spent tracking it down, buying, posting and then selling.

Car dealers do it at auctions. Imagine if there were a few sharks circling here!

im sure for many this site has become a community of sorts, knowing where to ask the questions, find that last part you require for you ss build, talk sh!t with people that hsare the same passion.

The guys letting their kit go for good prices so that other who arent as fortunate may be able to afford a decent upgrade miss out completely which is all fair and well but then for that same item to be flogged at tripple the price, thats not on

Pleanty sharks im sure

All the hubbers I have dealt with have been great and all were willing to negotiate as have I.

I have bought some items that were really well priced but never have I had the thought of reselling for a profit.

If I buy its becuase i really want the item and if I sell its because I no longer need the item as I have replaced it.

Sad if its the case of purely buying then selling to make a profit rather than wanting the item which disadvantages the ones that want it.

i recently bought some items and i am 100% happy with the seller/s. Awesome bunch people and likewise to those i have sold albeit not many items.

There have been a few items ive seen come up and gone within a couple minutes only to see posts by individuals that may have actually NEEDED the goods and then a little later that same or similar item come up by the initial buyer.

I dont realy want name and shame, have a look i the adds and you will quickly notice the trend.

Other forums i am part of frown on this sort of thing and was hust wondering if that is the case here

I would understand if you bought something, tried it out on a few rides and then realized it was not for you, then sell it again but at the same or slightly lowere price.

To buy, then sell right afterwards at a higher price is not on.

Yes it's definitely happening!

This was an issue before by a said hubber who is no longer part of this forum.

Some will agree some wont.

I don't !

I know the said hubbers i see many a times of items i want which is scooped by them.

It doesn't feel right, but we need to accept that once you sold something it's no longer yours and if that person wants to sell it they can.

Like I said, I don't agree with it, but that doesn't mean it's "wrong". It's just not something I would do......

Yes! Again

But like patch said it doesn't feel(seem) right. It's not "wrong" but just doesn't seem right for me personally to do!

I fall on the side of yes it's sold it belongs to the new owner,

would I do it no,

which is in a way a lie, I own a business I buy goods from suppliers and most of the parts are sold before my driver returns which makes me a hypocrite of sorts.

Makes no sense really because who ever is doing it is "running a business " of their own ,,,but it just feels "wrong" to me it falls in the similar range as selling epic entries for more than you paid JUST BECAUSE YOU WERE lucky to get one

AGAIN MAKES NO SENSE SO MY 2ZIM$ worth

Dips runs to the corner

Okay okay, I agreed that if you're doing it on a regular basis then it a bit uncouth, but I know of a number of buyers who buy parts and collect until they have enough to build a complete bike. Then they sell the bike for profit. What then?

I personally have bought a wheelset for basically nothing. Seller was happy with his asking price which was too low to begin with. I changed my bike to 11 speed and had no use for the wheels - all within about 4 weeks. Sold them for a very fair price, to a happy buyer. Is that dodgy??

I don't know where the line gets drawn, that's all I'm saying. If someone is constantly trolling the classified for bargains to make a quick buck, I can really argue with that.

I have found, when in your situation, posting a wanted ad rather than waiting for a part to be put up for sale usually yields faster results and better selling prices, in general. Once in a while someone flogs something at a tenth of its market value, and that's all open to fastest fingers in my book.

Who says that you cannot sell at a profit? Why is it a problem? I've been a hubber since day 1 and there have been plenty guys trading for profit. If a buyer doesn't like the price, then move on. It simple.

I've also made profit on goods. I bought a frame for R500 and sold it for R2000. I made R700 on a groupset.

I have also made losses. I use the money to upgrade my 2 bikes, so I don't feel guilty using the family budgets for my hobby.

If I came across a bargain again, I would sell at a profit and I'm willing to bet most of you here would do the same thing.

it's really frustrating trying to get a decent 26" Fork for a build for my boet on a budget. Seems like if you're not constantly on the hub you miss the good deals. Even had a person offer more and snake a deal. But I guess that's more about ethics. But to see it reappear for just under triple the price a few days later sucks balls. Anyway I have learned to HTFU and wait. Straight steerer Fox fork anyone?
