Thanks again for all the replies people!!

Looks like long hrs commuting is a reality doesn't matter where you stay.

2 solutions: companies need to move to Stellenbosch/ Paarl

OR

Get a 'gautrain' from Paarl into CBD

:-)

Eventually the commute from swest to stellenbosch got to me- 45mins in car, 29 min bike. Ruined cycling for me in the process. Moved to stb, commute now up gspot down coetzenburg, reverse in afternoon and loving it. My Personal view-stay as close to your job as possible. My wife and I made lots of sacrifices to be able to do this, she prefers swest, but our current set-up is better for us a family.

Yzerfontein

1/2 hours drive from Cape Town

Fat bike heaven with 16-mile beach running in the direction of Langebaan and about 40 kilometers of beach running in the direction of Cape Town.

My folks have had a place there since the 70s, if you think it is a boere white by night enclave you should have seen it then! I would not have called this a bike town at all, but tubeless tyres make it rideable!

The Durbanville - CT commute in the morning must be the worst in the country. I commute in the opposite direction and during the normal morning peak the N1 resembles a 8 km long parking lot.

just imagine if those people would bloody well carpool?

Can I please re-open this thread... and ask for input. Other than Scooterza for whom work doesn't seem to be a factor, my requirements are a little different.

Also planning on leaving Gauteng and making the move down to western cape. My requirements are a little bit of everything; so I know I will not be satisfied with everything, but would like to get some input/opinions.

Work:

I've got a couple of options in terms of work - locations are mostly in CPT CBD. So, in terms of travelling for normal office hour job to CPT CBD, which 'outlying' areas (like SW, Stellies, Paarl, Durbanville) is viable? What typically can one expect in terms of travel time? i'm an early/morning person an normally am at work by 7:15 (currently leaving home 6:50).

Schools/kids:

Girl is 10 and in grade 5. Boy is 12 & in grade 7. Would love to move this year so he can start high school in WC. So, in terms of schools; looking for good AFRIKAANS schools (both primary and highschool).

In terms of activities my kids both does gymnastics (non school sports - currently). So would lile them to continue doing that as both got Gauteng colours the past couple of years. They do other activities; but not as important as the gymnastics.

Living:

Currently we stay in a typical security estate in Gauteng (PTA). Stand is 1000sq.m. and home 300 sq.m. My wife and I love the mountains. So, we'd like to stay in a 'lifestyle' estate with similar size stand/home; with views of the mountains, open space, freedom, etc. We're both active in terms of cyling (me) and running (both of us). So a big estate in which she can safely run on her own would be great. We like a place that would give you a typical country feel in terms of living; away from the huzzle of everyday life.

So, herewith my question... Are there such estates in close proximity to good AFR schools that are within driving distance to CPT CBD.

Would be great to get some input as we're down in WC week after next to scout options ????

in terms of gymnastics I'm pretty sure there's a good club in the Claremont rondebosch area. Grootte schuur is next to Newlands cricket. And the commute will be much better to cbd and you have a viable train option

Best artistic gymnastics club in Cape Town at the moment is Brawns, they are based at Sweet Valley Primary School in Bergvliet, but is for all levels of gymnasts. (Best club - if you look at performance at provincial and national levels.) There are several others that work well too, in the northern Suburbs I got good vibes from Allstars. In the middle geographically), ACS in Monte Vista has done well over many years. Whatever club you choose, you are going to do serious driving because training times are usually later in the day so as to not clash with school sports and car pooling is difficult for a sport like this.

Groote Schuur is basically no longer an Afrikaans school. They are dual medium but 99% English. I have not heard much good about them for many a year. Sorry.

Tulbach, Ceres, wellington all good options

After stage 2 of the Epic, today please do not consider going anywhere near Tulbagh unless you are a 4x4 enthusiast!!

If you love pushing your bike, it may be an option!!

I completely agree. Tulbach and surrounding is not fun at all to cycle!! I really don't like the trails there! I will sell my epic entry if the route is in tulbach area again ????

So I been house hunting this lask week, mainly Somerset West area. but also looked at a place in Brackenfell called Sonkring.

What concerns me is the size of the houses and the prices. they very new, fairly big and well priced when compared to Somerset West.

Does anyone know the Sonkring area ? and comments on the area ?

Singage ar paul l Cluver SUCKED! I talked To multiple riders who were

Lost multiple multiple times. They still had signs up from a race that were confusing and had NO signage to get back to oak valley. If they don't address that, I strongly recommend to stay on oak valley only ( and shower and go to lunch!).

First order of business.  Please do us the favour and go introduce yourself in the appropriate forum thread.  In a friendly and approachable manner.

Next, people that have a major rant as their first post are usually frowned upon by other Hubbers.

And lastly.  Please post in the correct forum when you do want to have a hissy fit about something.  At least you will talk to people who actually care about your rant.
