Ok then so you never said it in words but that was the impression I got from the way you conducted your question regarding the effectiveness.

I am sorry you got that impression. My question was genuine. Asked nothing more, nothing less.

To get back to the effectiveness of the campaign.

It will only be effective if people, us as cyclist believe we can make a difference and pro-actively try to make a difference.

And sorry to say but as this stage it doesn't seem like we can stand together let alone being a community.

Next time it might be you or me or one of your friends or family members that doesn't come back after a ride.

I hope that day never comes for any one on you.

You may not want to be part of something that can potentially change you life but then you also don't have a right to complain if things doesn't happen the way you like it.

Ive retweeted the hastag it several times... what more do you want people to do? Its a hashtag campaign!!

Maybe all the energy being put into fighting with people on the Hub should rather be spent retweeting a hashtag if that is what this is all about. Edit: Or as Tumbles has said telling us what the hell we are supposed to do to support the campaign. Enough with the moaning though jeeez.

Okay, I made mention of this just now. So far, on this thread, details of the campaign are scant. Would someone care to post links to FB pages or whatever to help educate those who have no idea what this all entails?

Here's an easy one:

Obey the speed limit.

Force the cops from out the bushes, to do enforcement of the other equally important rules.

force them how? the only way i can think if is luring them from behind the bushes with kfc, otherwise they wont budge. Law enforcement in south africa is a front for criminal extortion

I love what you had to say Carpet so the next bit is not an attack on you or your quoted post but me just taking the thought further.

Have any of us taken the risk of starting a similar discussion with our non-cycling mates? Getting them to realize that it's our, and people like us, safety at stake if they drive like idiots or get behind the wheel in an unfit state to drive. That they are risking leaving a family without a breadwinner - not everyone who cycles is doing it for sport. I know that I have with varying degrees of success but bringing the subject up for discussion does help as it gets them thinking. And hopefully if we've made our point well will help with changing their attitudes especially if we get our act together and show respect for the rules of the road both on and off the bike.

A lot of violins were killed in creating this post!

Questioning the efficacy of this campaign is not stupid or disloyal to the "cause". Finding meaningful and sustainable strategies to improve cycling safety is EVERYONE'S objective.  The fact that people are pointing out this this is a lame duck strategy begs the question, what is the better way?  And by the way, I agree that this is a waste of time.  WE need to find something better.

Edit: And just because someone has tried something, but it turns out to be crap , does not earn them a gold star for effort.  So they tried - so what? Results count, not efforts

Perhaps you did not read my post.

I will make the point as clear as my limited penmanship allows.

If you and every other person stops breaking the speed limit, there will be no need for speed enforcement or revenue generation through cops hiding in the bushes behind a camera, forcing the cops to get out from the bushes and do actual enforcement.

Savvy?

Your second statement regarding the extortion: stop paying bribes.

And  much steroids consumed before tying this post .

The first highlighted point ........are you blowing hot air or are you willing to share those strategies with us all ?

Second highlighted point ........ you say people, yes some people that is whilst many others have already got behind it .... effort .... action  ..... proactive ......

Waist of time ..... let's ponder on that a little *

Well then become a part of finding something better ........or hot air on  :P

What has turned out Cr@P ....... what did I miss ?

*Fools wonder whilst others ponder

I think this campaign is a great idea, i struggle with work friends and even family about the fact that cyclists are allowed to be on the road.

I make certain that when I am behind the wheel I wait till its safe to pass, if that means I wait 2 minutes behind an oke dwardling along, I turn on a little taylor swift, relax and pass when safe.

I think by doing this is the only way to show other motorists how to pass and treat cyclists.

This is a positive approach.........but just considering the current level of road rage between drivers of vehicles, makes it even more dangerous for cyclist of all formats. Consequences is not sufficient.

Sometimes we think drivers are out to get cyclists, I have seen a car plough over the central reservation of hospital bend and then smash into oncoming traffic.

Sundays are even worse, people just cruising through red robots with people flashing lights at them and hooting.

Some people are just full on dumb, unfortunately sometimes they hit cyclists.
