for 60k... I'd say go to Giant for the Trance Advanced (slap some carbon rims on it) or Reign, Spez for the 2015 Enduro (which they're clearing out at the moment - saw an Enduro 29 expert for 55k the other day) Or a Stumpjumper.

Also PYGA, the Stage Max should be out in December. Bibi should have some stuff with LaPierre, then there's the Trek Remedy or Fuel (BRILLIANT bikes) and then the Kona Process through Dial'd. Then there's the Transition Scout & Patrol, which are great bikes, and the Banshee Spitfire.

At that budget, the world is your oyster...

Not trying to jack the thread, but are there any other trail bikes you guys recommend looking at in 2016? I have a carbon hard tail 29er (my XC bike) but I really have my heart set on getting a more trail orientated bike next year. I am looking seriously at a Santa Cruz Bronson. I also have my eye on the Momsen Vipa Trail which is soon to be released.

More suspension (110mm rear + 140mm front) + dropper seat post is the target here. I am looking to have more fun tearing it up down the hills, rougher stuff and getting some bigger air!

The only problem I can see is that I will still need to keep up to the rest of the guys on their XC and Enduro bikes. But at least I would be having a lot more fun to compensate!

If you're considering a Bronson, have a look at the 2016 Santa Cruz 5010 as well: HA 67; 130mm rear suspension; 120 - 140mm fork. I have the 2013/14 model and have no trouble keeping up with the XC guys. Read the reviews.

Trek Remedy. Saw an XT/Fox 34 kitted bike for R65k.

Transition Scout (120r; 140f?)

Julian, you must please get out of my head bru, or am I in your head?  Ahhh, I am confused. I swear your post is exactly summing up my sentiments at the present time. I am looking for a dualie, my mates keep telling me go XC, but my heart longs for the freedom of tearing it up on the trails. I am so confused right now.

At present I am pushing the boundaries of sanity on my very entry level bergamont HT.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Just a quick question, you think this type of bike (trail bike) would be suited for doing long stage races such as Berg and Bush, Sani 2 Sea, Joburg 2 Sea?

I mostly do 40km single day races at the moment but want to get into the longer stage day races.

Should at least be a lot more comfy than doing it on a hard tail. Two of my mates actually rode berg and bush on their hard tails last month.

oh, without a doubt. No hassle at all. They'll probably be BETTER suited to it, for the large majority of us. More forgiving, more comfortable and more relaxed. Plus more fun on the downs.

EDIT: I'd actually do the W2W on the Reign. Stiffen up the suspension a bit, lighter tyres and a for away.

If 60k is the budget.... Stage MAX maybe? would you get one for that?

Also apparently Yeti are coming in with the ASR Enduro (slightly cheaper version of the ASRc), and the SB4.5c soon which might be some (very sexy) options to consider.

Here is the pics for you.

This is where I am now!!!

A Giant trance 2016 brand new @ R30,000

Includes dropper post and tubeless conversion

140mm travel & 67 degree head tube angle

OR

The Specialized camber comp carbon 2014 (2nd hand) being advertised here on the HUB for R29,900

Brilliant price for this bike

110mm travel been converted to 120mm travel

70 degree head tube angle.

Will the Spez still cope with 3 foot jumps and ripping it down the western cape tracks.

Which is better suited for lets say - Hoogekraal / G-spot / Jonkershoek etc.

If I wanted to do the odd paarl monument down hiller ride, would the Spez hold up of just buck me off?

first All Mountain stumpy was I think in 2010 / 2009 - the 150mm one with the dual crown 150mm fork.

Doesn't help that their hardtail is also called a stumpjumper.

But yes. All Mountain is LITERALLY All Mountain. You cycle up to get down. Enduro is the competition format based on All Mountain riding, but only timing the downs ie Where the most fun is to be had.

There is no such thing as an "Enduro" bike, but it is now a term that, through continuous use, refers to any All Mountain bike.

This is also why there's so much pisstake on the #ENDURO®© #EndurBro #DownDuro #UpnDownDuro etc.

It's just All Mountain riding.

This was not labeled a stumpy, but an "Enduro" back in the day.

The Stumpy FSR from this era was a 120mm travel bike

Trance. No doubt in my mind.
