Wayne Potgieter Posted March 24, 2020 Share Bet the hoarders are laughing at us non hoarders now. Stay well everyone. I've already got cabin fever and day one is tomorrow I hoarded a whole bunch of snacks, then ate them all on day -1. Now I am fat and have indigestion. rad006 Posted March 24, 2020 Share I just made a total rookie error. By failing to move my family's kiwisaver funds from aggressive to low risk, I have just realised a loss of over $12,000. I am normally totally on top of that stuff. Now I have moved to a cash position to mitigate the bleeding and will have to hope for a bounce back eventually to move back on to aggressive to try claw back. Stupid damn virus. My friend has lost R150k, I've lot around R50k and counting....SA is going on a 21 Day lock down from Thursday Midnight. No leave can be deducted, awesome as I still have 15 days due to me.... Steven Knoetze (sk27) Posted March 24, 2020 Share So we are in the boat where we have sold up this side (SA), I still have a job for now. My wife not anymore. Medical aid was cancelled but thankfully that has been withdrawn. We hadn't sold cars yet too, so that helps. Our visa's were approved on the 11th March but we couldn't get over in time. We were trying to work out our notice periods, but 6 or 7 days was just too short to get everything sorted and get over.......Tough times ahead, but we are keeping strong and positive. We have family and out health, the rest we can wing it for now.New employer NZ side has also been amazing so far, very supportive.Financially we are pretty much on the fence, the duration of this will dictate our fate. Stay strong folks intern and davetapson

Rocket-Boy Posted March 24, 2020 Share Sorry no, that was communicated to me in a conversation with Management in my company.I think its wrong for companies to enforce leave if they are....That depends entirely on the size of its company and its financial position. My wife owns a small bakery and Easter is the time of year that carries them through. This year they dont get Easter plus they have the ongoing expenses of rent etc. So for them if they dont take the time where they arent working off of staff leave then there wont be jobs to come back to for the staff as they will have to close down. But wait Cyril announced support for small businesses during this trying time!!!Yup there is "support" if your business is at least 51% black owned.Seeing as my wife doesnt fit that demographic she gets no support, apparently the government doesnt care about her staff that wont have jobs anymore as a result of that. rad006

davetapson Posted March 24, 2020 Share Re the leave thing here - the guys where I work now were all told to take leave, including the contractors. The contracts are all short term, so it's the equivalent of avoiding the contractors' notice period - we're not giving you notice, but you can't come to work, and if you don't come to work, you can't charge, we don't have to pay you. Not completely kosher. Steven Knoetze (sk27)

I'm invested in a fund via a manager in Ireland. Value is down US$58,000 in 10 days. It's going to take a while to recover.
