I've received a reply from the chief comm - The route I published for the road race is correct but the distances are not confirmed yet.

I hope to receive more details later today, as they were busy on a meeting for the race.

The TT route goes from Daleside towards Kareekloof - same as in 2009.

Can you please post a link to a map or a route profile if you have any?

Here is the post with the single lap. Where we join the route is either top (12 o'clock) or bottom (6 o'clock). Racing is usually counter-clockwise, i.e. left turns, except for one right turn into Daleside.

1 lap excluding the first and last 4Km is 30Km.

I don't know much about the TT course, except for the road it takes place on...

The different age categories will have different turn around points on the road, giving it the different distance for each. The turnaround shown below is at the entrance to the reserve (Suikerbosrand).

You could have made a much better race organiser. No it is just a matter of getting my TT start time and our RR time for Sunday...

From Twit land:

"tt will be Saturday from 7am, road race on Sunday - 7am details will be up by COB"

I see you didn't say COB today, only COB.

I'm still waiting for a follow up mail with the details.

That's why the race he does organise is such a success. Because Gerald knows how to organise a race!!!!!

Why do we "need" 5 sub provinces for Gauteng anyway if non of them performs.

What does a podium of a sub province of a province of a country actually mean, we might just as well have a "champion" for every suburb of every town in RSA.

What does it cost the cyclist to keep the 5 subs running instead of one REAL province.

Gauteng had about half a million Rand stolen from them a couple of years back, how is it possible that they even had so much money that was obviously supposed to promote cycling.

Looks like they only worrie about the end of year parties.

Is it right to pay a sub province secretary (with an other full time job) R5-6000 a month to organise one meeting a month, and then does not even care to respond to all this dissatisfaction of the very cyclist that supplies the finances?

Why not get one Gauteng province with people that really want to be there, promoting cycling, then at least a champ would be a Champ again and more money would be available for cycling instead of keeping all the subs alive and partying.

You can't point fingers at CSA for this, as it is a directive from our sports ministry to split sport into regions under the province which then falls under the national federation. I'll reserve any personal comments on what I think of this, but I'm sure you can read between the lines to know what could possibly be said.

Then, it's Provincial Champs, not regional, so there is only one winner per category for Gauteng. As Spinnekop has said, you don't need to take part in provincial champs to go to National champs therefore relegating provincial champs to "just another race". It should be a race where the provincial team is selected to represent the province at National champs. Having teams, with sponsors has contributed to the demise of provincial selection.

The biggest problem highlighted on this thread is one of communication or the lack thereof.

The problem is that with 5 regions, there is no unity, even though today I found out that there is indeed a person responsible for Gauteng. Why hasn't this been communicated yet? And why don't our regional contacts know this?

As mentioned a few times, on this thread and others... there used to be races held weekly: crits, TT, hill climbs, interclub, inter provincial and more. Sadly it's now events for the masses.

Ha-ha. Thanks.

I only communicate what the race committee has decided. There are a team of us organising the race. Race route, start times, batching, seeding and rider representation are most of the areas I prefer to be involved in.

Permits, sponsors, equipment, catering, permissons, fiances, etc., is not my thing.

This is one reason I'm not 100% against the organisers of this event... it's not as simple as advertising an event and running with it, but one key thing they're overlooking is that no-one outside their committee knows what they are thinking. But it's also not that complex either.

After making a bit of a fuss, Mike is responding on Twitter

"I have very little to do with #Provincial races, event info is poor.1/2

busy creating new channels for improved future efficiency to address 2/2"

What really concerns me is, when one organise a race, any road race, it is a logistical nightmare, additionally you need insurances, race commissionaires, officials etc.

Because the basic information is not available for the provincial champs, I have to ask certain questions, such as:

1. Is this event insured?

2. Will there be road closures? if any; (trucks, taxi's and general traffic)

3. Safety and Security, enough officials on the actual route/s and ambulances?

It is not just a matter of publishing the route and start times. TT rosters etc.

I have too many questions relating to any information on the champs, makes me very uneasy to send a rider to race in good conscience. I am very concerned about the safety of riders and as a manager cannot condone nor support the poor organisation of the champs.

If it was a commercial event, like most of the races being held during the course of the year then CSA would not have sanctioned such a poorly organised race.
