A little over a week ago my wife's new VW Jetta broke down along the road as a result of the clutch being "misused" as VW Called it. Car only has 37000km on it. After a few heated conversations with VW it was put to me that they don't cover the clutch under the warranty and I had to pay. The total for the whole clutch was just over 20k. I almost had a heart attack when they told me as I don't have that spare cash lying around.I didn't want to make any debt and felling very bleak about the situation I decided to sell my bike that i bought 2 or 3 months earlier to get the cash.

A day later I got calls from two guys, digit (Paul) who was interested in buying my bike, and Jost. They both tried to help me out with a cheaper option. Digit got me a very good price which allowed me to keep my bike and fix the car.

I just want to say thanks to Jost and digit (Paul). Both of you went out of your way to help me. See you on the trails and for a cold one sometime.

Almost forgot, thanks DubbelBuys for the advice as well.

Personally I feel Its absolutely ridiculous what you were quoted. Full clutch kit is probably around R2000. Maybe 8 hours of labour at R500 p/h R4000 and some sundries at R1500.Total of R7500. Where do they get R20k from?

I have done several clutches on cars in my 'backyard' (including my old 4x4, had to drop both gearboxes) and not one took me more than a day on my own!

Freakin cool.....this place can sometimes clutch out (although lately just spinning on one spot).....but when the going gets tough and pressure increases........then the "old" HUB still kicks in.

Well done all you loose cogs......feeling good moment.

Also in a similar boat, Renault quoted me R17k for the clutch, got an option / quote at a local mechanic which i have used before (read: trust) for around R6k.

The loose cogs were not so loose there for a moment, working for a common cause????????

My hubbers list is loooong, made a few mates, learnt lots, killed a few hours, in GENERAL I think hubbers are dam helpful, I reckon the hub is like any community what you put in you generally get back, and as always in life there are school fees to be paid, so look out for the planks
