COMPULSORY EQUIPMENT

  • Each team must carry a basic first aid kit with space blanket, plasters, and bandages.
  • Participants must be properly equipped for night riding (headlight and red tail light). Use back tail light on the ON mode as flickering can induce epileptic fits.
  • The following compulsory equipment is required and must be seen as the bare minimum to be on the bike (this will be checked):

• Basic first aid kit (with space blankets, bandages, etc).

• Windbreaker & space blanket (each rider)

• Puncture repair kit & spare tube

• Lights and spare batteries

• Whistle

  • Make sure your bicycle is in good order, especially the brakes! Participants must complete the race with the bike they started with.
  • No Bikes will be serviced at Registration
  • Wearing of HELMETS is compulsory.

Do they really check for this stuff?

Surely each rider doesn't need a 1st aid kit?

Wind breaker? Like full on long sleeve or will a gillet suffice? (I suppose that is weather dependent)

Lights etc will be in box for later

Excuse me bumping my own post, but I wanted to get an answer from those who rode this past weekend

In my 8 editions of Trans that I've done, they've never checked. I think its in the rules to cover themselves. They can't check 400 odd teams on the morning and have every rider pack out their Camelbaks to show them, it will take too long.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

Not that I want to short change the system. I just want to know what to expect.

Ja don't need to worry too much, I carry all the stuff in any case but they haven't checked in the 6 I have done.

I mean, looks like the front runners carried barely more than bottles...

All I can say is pack your dual sus.. and if you dont have a dual GO AND GET ONE. The surface up to check point 2 K@k. That section is suicide on a hardtail.

Otherwise the event was awesome. food was great and water points very nicely stocked.

PS, there still some water crossings after bergplaas so pack your dry clothes accordingly

Rode my first Trans this weekend. The route is tough the MAK wow what a climb, watching the bike lights from either looking up or down was spectacular. The waterpoints were great well stocked, those sosaties, jaffels and soup all seem to come at the correct time. Luckily the weather was great, the evening did get pretty chilly. The last 5kms of singletrack felt like it was never going to end. I don't like shopping malls but when i saw the mall at Jeffreys i had the biggest smile. Will i go back and do it again for sure!!!!

half the first aid kit and a space blanket in 1 pocket, lightweight rain jacket in other, tubeless repair kit on stem, it is bare bones racing but easily doable.

I went and changed a few things for AR and managed to drop my backpacks weight by 3kg, and a lot of it was silly things, 400grams by choice of rain jacket, team use same lights so carry one spare between two of you and both start on good batteries, food, if you have more than 200ml when you reach the next water station you carrying way to much fluids...

Camelbak syndrome is bad, you have space so ya just take it just incase, ya fill that 3l bladder just in case and then 99% of the time you just carry around a whole pile of stuff you rarely/barely/shouldn't need to use...

Aish I was hoping for different news regarding the surface...Suicide it will be then.

How deep are there watercrossings after Bergplaas? Do you suggest dry clothes only at CP 5? There are usually a couple after the big dipper but they just wet the tires and depending on water levels one after CP5 just before the NeverEnder.
