Good article. I agree with the views on chain checkers - if you don't have a Shimano type one use a ruler with Imperial measurements, preferably one longer than 12 inches.  A Park Tool spoke length gauge is ideal as it measures just longer than 12 inches with 1/16" markings.

Jones(Park Tools guy) comment:

Then comes Shimano marketing deception bs :(

 

"Murdick(Shimano USA) claims the latest Shimano 11-speed chains are far more durable and resistant to length growth compared with previous generation 10-speed and earlier chains."

Shimano also says that the anti friction layer on their 11s cables coming off is due to incorrect installation where the cable rubs the outer,.................even when the area the layer is coming off is far from any housing.

You guys can badmouth Shimano all you want,their components are still better than the SRAM equivalent.....[emoji185]

Im with you on this, I prefer Shimano to Sram. but then again it is a free world.

I'm surprised they didn't mention the old trick of using multiple chains and rotating them. 

 

That's what I do.  Three chains for each bike.  One on the bike, one in cleaning solution, one lubed one on the shelf.  Same amount of work as one chain, mut makes whole drive train last 3 times longer.

That's neat! What cleaning solution do you use and how long in it, and what lube/oil do you use?

You're wrong, he does work.................not very hard or very intelligently or cleverly .......but he does work.

 

Shimano's lates groupsets are just trouble. SRAM or Campag just work

Comparing Zuma to SRAM is a better comparison. Then there is AVID Brakes, Zuma possibly works better
