I had 2 Bryton 35,s .First unit worked until it started hanging and would not charge .The HRM suck and is not waterproof 'Sweatproof ".I bought a unit again when Cape union got rid of their stock .It still works but the HRM is still the same poor quality and i have given up on the software .I now use a Polar v800 and will never go back to bryton .Polar is a quality product with 4 weeks battery life and polar flow software works easy .Also the unit can be worn all day long like any other watch and is 100% waterproof and robust

I voted no.

Started with a Bryton a few years back as it was cheaper...only reason.

Wont buy another, Garmin is far better in my view

I guess it is a perfect start for a newbie, not too much cash and if familiarises you with GPS computers. Whe nyou get more pedantic and specific you can upgrade to a Garmin.

True but I wouldn't say a perfect start....their (Bryton) website is horrible, might put you off GPS's altogether

I said no.

Bought a Bryton 35. Was an excellent deal through Groupon. R1300.

The unit worked OK.

Issues that I experienced.

1. The unit is very  fragile. Fell from a height of 30cm. Cracked the outside plastic casing. LCD screen was still fine. The agents could not repair the plastic cover and could only offer a discount on a new unit.

2. They have the worst software in the world. Just cannot analyse anything on the Bryton website. Also, downloading rides was a hit and miss affair.

3. The unit would often give weird data during races. It seemed that bringing the unit in contact with multiple ANT+ sensors in the start pens would cause a malfunction in the unit. Not fun to reset your unit after your race has begun.

4. If the speed sensor stops working, then the GPS does not take over. I had a crash during the race and the speed cadence sensor became displaced. Despite having a GPS unit, I did not have speed or distance readings for the rest of the race.

I bought the same deal. The unit worked ok to begin with. I then had endless hassles with the heart rate monitor just not working. Contacted the agents and they were great. They lent me another unit to try, replaced the strap and offered me a seriously reduced price on a Bryton 40. Somehow I just kept having the same hassle. Came to the conclusion that the Bryton HR strap just doesn't work for me. Sold the Bryton 40 and bought the Garmin 500 and haven't had a single problem with it. I also have an old Garmin FR40 that just works. I wont buy anything but Garmin. For me they are the best!

I was lucky enough to buy a Garmin before the exchange went to like a million to 1 but I suppose you have to buy what you can afford also. I have heard nothing but good things from friends who got these.

Trying to figure out where all the website issues come from.

Just logged on to the Bryton site, downloaded my latest ride and got the report within 3 mins. Then loaded it onto Strava which was another 2 mins.

Yes I had to use a cable whereas the Garmin does it wirelessly, I understand the convenience.

Also my Bryton has never misted up, has never come out of the bike mount, etc, etc.

I see buycycle have also commented here, their comments are based on only sell Garmin though. Meanwhile I have been querying through their website whether their Garmin GSC10 speed/cadence sensor is ANT+ compatible and still no answer. Been 4 or 5 days now. Keep getting the iKambhi tickets logging the query but no reply.

I do have one concern wrt Bryton and that is that after mailing Bryton head office, for a sensor, they replied saying that there is no current Bryton distributor in SA but they are finalizing one. So seems Ballistic trading is not a Bryton agent anymore. Which is why I am trying to find a compatible cadence sensor.

Also the new Bryton 310 looks suspiciously like the Rider 40 in different colours...........

I see the 310 has WIFI, so wireless uploads may be coming.

the garmin GSC10 is ANT+ you can check on the Ant+ directory yourself https://www.thisisant.com/directory/

It should work with your bryton.  I have a friend who up until recently started off with bryton and has now moved to garmin and used his 910xt watch with the bryton sensor without issue as both are ANT+.  He has just fitted a GSC10 sensor as wanted the option of recording distance when on the IDT which the bryton sensor was not able to do.

So the fact that bryton says they dont have one and Buycycle is asking all the questions/strated this thread...one cannot help but think, are they the interested party?

How important is Discovery integration when choosing a bike computer?

Directly from the bike computer, via the manufacturer's app/site?

Since I am going to export the file and upload to Strava anyway, and Discovery syncs with Strava, for me its not too important; but if you do have the option I'm sure it would be very convenient.

of course is free market research ...

As all can see, if you on a budget Bryton is an option, but if you can afford it, Garmin is the way to go and with the Edge 20 and 25, being comparable in price... bryton going to have their work cut out unless they up their game!!
