I'm now down to 91.5kgs. It has plateaued there because I started doing quite a bit of intensity so muscle mass is up. Starting to get into shape again and i haven't got too much more to lose before I will start looking gaunt.

I will be in the high 80s by Berg 'n Bush in a couple of weeks.

Pieter1 if you watch this video it sounds about right...if you need 2500 calories to keep your body going per day and you only eat 783 for 3 days...there is a good chance you gona loose a *** house full of weight.

AWESOME video. Thanks. Yea my calorie intake will now be roughly 1500 each day. Not sure what the point of the 3 day detox is but this slender wonder programme has worked for me in the past and does wonders for my wife. Ps. I'm not conected to anyone involved at slender wonder, it just works for us.

Very simply explained and accurate.

I will add one thing though, going too far below your maintenance calorie intake, will put your body into starvation mode. You'll have a hard time going about your daily routine at the same pace as before. Like the guy said, Maintenance - 200 to 600 calories. (actually kilocalorie, but that's a whole other topic to be confused about)

  • 2 weeks later...

2 weeks into the Sleek Geek Ultimate You challenge.

Started out at 109.2kg (at night, post food and drink)

This morning I was 105.3

Just taken measurements on my upper body.

Chest: 116:114 - loss of 2cm

Waist: 115:111 - loss of 4cm

Beltline & hips: 103:101 - loss of a combined 4cm

All told : 10cm lost in 2 weeks excl biceps and legs (not worried about those)

I enrolled in the challenge cos it's an extra layer of accountability, and I'm now part of a team working towards a very specific goal. It's 8 weeks long, and I'm not doing anything drastically different. Just eating properly and exercising regularly.

I've been dodging the blame for my own slip ups for too long.

Question...

Does anybody found that with trying to drop some weight that it effects your strength on the bike?

Positively yes...

But more to your question, I think you have to find that balance.

Going too low will mean you start losing muscle mass, but for us fatties getting to an ideal weight while still riding and doing some weight training can only be beneficial.

With weight loss per se - not really. BUT losing weight if you are on some of these fancy programmes may lead to nutritional deficit given the exercise you do. Make sure you do not get into nutritional deficit. You will likely also end up sick that way.

no...just getting stronger...could have something to do with my fat legs turning to muscle or should i say loosing the fat and building muscle.

the question i ask myself...am i really getting stronger or just faster...as i have indicated...it takes 500 W + to get a 100 kg person up a hill compared to 250W + to get a 60 kg person up the same hill (looking at estimated power on strava in a segment)

the only way i could answer this question is to get back on a stationary trainer with a power meter and analyse the results.

Allow me to step on some toes.

I've been reading and watching and there's a lot of you that have dropped so little weight, it's the difference between a poop before weigh in or not. Some even gained weight, shocking.

"I'm eating right and exercising, but I'm still picking up weight blah blah", horse manure.

I've been tracking my food for the last 6 weeks to see how difficult it is to lose weight and I hereby confirm, that it's damn near impossible to GAIN weight by eating right, no matter how big your portions.

My average daily eat plan looked as follows:

Breakfast: skip

Lunch: can tuna/chicken breast/beef + handful fresh veggies

Dinner: 2 chicken breasts, 1 cup rice, 2 cups green veggies and a (sweet) potato.

This may not sound like a lot, but dinner is often more than I can handle. It is, literally, a stacked plate of food that would make most people cringe. To make matters worse, I have to take 2 scoops of a mass builder/gainer (around 400 calories per serving) and I'm still nearly 800-1000 calories (7 cups of rice!) down from my weight maintenance figures (average 2500 calories for a middle aged male).

This does not take any exercise into consideration, which will give me even more leeway.

So why are you guys picking up weight? You're not eating right and I don't care what you say

1 can soda =140 calories = 1 cup of rice(ish)

1 slice pizza = 300 calories = 3.5 bananas

Steers Burger = 650 calories = 5.5 chicken breasts

The quicker you stop fooling yourself, the quicker you'll see results.

/Rant off
