Awful news! Apparently an English woman driving on the wrong side of the road. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery for all concerned.

Saw that. Apparently 6 of them. Doumilon and degenkolb where 2 of them. Well that's the way I understood the very brief article.

Fortunately Tommy D wasn't injured but Degenkolb a lot less fortunate. Haga apparently the worst of the injured - he was the rider airlifted to hospital.

Just hope all recover soon.

That's my understanding as well. Horrible news to read. Degenkolb is one of the nicest guys on the pro circuit and Giant Alpecin one of the nicest teams. As the PR guy said an event like this isn't something you expect. Glad to see though that their first concern was notifying the family of the injured riders before releasing names. Just hope that all the guys pull through without any lasting scars especially Haga. His family must be frantically trying to arrange tourist visas to Spain and to get there as soon as they can from the State's!

Really hope this all comes right for him. Makes me cringe just thinking about it.

Following rumours that the collision with an oncoming car during the team’s training camp in Calpe had resulted in crush injuries to his hand and could lead to the amputation of one digit, he clarified the situation via his Facebook page.

“Because of the many well-wishes and messages to me, I want to briefly update things,” he stated. “I’m all right, considering the circumstances. Earlier wounds to my thigh, forearm and lip were stitched together under general anaesthetic.

“Now I’m in the ambulance heading to Valencia, where my left index finger should be fixed in a bigger hospital. It was barely hanging on to my hand. I don’t remember much.”

This was terrible, I skim read the article to make sure they were not in SA having a training camp, almost felt guilty and something that happens so often here.

I hope they all come through surgery safely.

Hope this does not dampen John's Classics prep too much.
