Don't follow the bike shop, follow the bike mechanic. Of them all, I have found BMC the most consistent over the past number of years. Perhaps because they stay put?

Both Jared and Kevin at BMC in Salt River

Andrew (aka Droo, fellow Hubber) at Stoke Suspenstion in Observatory

Mark, ex-Crown Cycles, now with Swift in Town?

At most of the shops mechanics seem to come and go and you never know who is going to work on your beloved bike. I like to look the mechanic in the eye, with my cars also!

Yeah, I notice mechanics move around quite a bit.  I suppose chasing the extra buck what with them generally getting paid a pittance.

Recently I spotted a guy at the CCMA - it was the mechanic who worked on my MTB late last year!!!!

Lance is no longer at Bikemob - ex Epic bike shop. But still excellent service.

Clint at the Constantia Bike Park is also very good. Highly recommended.

Damned ... missed that, been a while since I have been out that way!

Lance @ Epic Bike Shop ..... fanatically meticulous!

Yes and also no longer at The BIke Mob (new name for Epic BIke Shop).

Neville would be the mechie now.

Crown Cycles in Imam Harron Road (Lansdowne Road of old)

Bridge Cycles in De Waal Road Diep River.

Olympic Cycles in Imam Harron Rd.

Olympic are not the best. They pile up bikes and they get scratched etc. I have also taken in a bike to get the front wheel aligned and on getting it back, the crank bearing was stuffed. I literally could not ride it to the car and went back in to ask what they had done to it. Apparently "nothing", but the bottom bearing on a 6 month old Stumpjumper just does not pack up sitting in a shop for 3 days.

I have had great services done by Crown and Luke Rex (who operates out of a garage but it really good).

Agreed on Olympic. Took my week old bike in for a minor tune. Came back with scratches.

I haven't been there in a long time, but for a no nonsense approach go see Kurt at speedy cycles in wynberg main road, just near the ultra liquors. Not fancy in any way, which appeals to some

Cycle lab, ugh... They could not get my bike into the big ring and just gave it to me and said nothing. After another 20minutes still could not make it happen.

had to go there for first time in a few years... Jeez, have they shrunk into a tiny little pokey shop. Almost trust them more now.
