1x11 or not

For me its just the simplicity of the whole thing , cleaner bar , no chain rub . Maybe its the placebo effect . It just feels good and the one time when it really came in handy was coming down a long downhill and then suddenly having to pedal up a short steep climb (wasnt expecting it ) I could just shift through the rear cluster to a comfortable gear and pedal .  I dont think I will go back to 2 x

If you like simplicity, buy a single speed rigid. If you're not strong enough, fit a Rholoff hub.

I still cannot understand the rational for a 1x system, but a 46 at the back is insane. This is a classic example of a solution to a problem that should never have existed.

You'll basically require more slack in your chain and a longer cage on your derailleur than a normal 2x11 system with a 12x36 casette and you'll still basically have the same range.

Why?

Because it works and we can and we like it.

You also climb faster than those people that have FDs.

I also have a 1X11  because I  can and I like it  and it works.

BUT what does a FD ( front dérailleur, I presume) have to do with how fast you climb?

If I am in 32x42 with no FD,   or  on a bike with 24/32 with a FD,  both have about the same ratio. (both same wheel size)

How  will the one with no FD be faster?

The reason you go up hills faster is most likely because you have a better power to weight ratio than the people you normally cycle with.

E.g. it is very likely that Cadel Evans will go up a hill faster than you, irrespective what setup he rides.

When it comes to climbs I find myself going up faster on 32x36 than people with front dérailleurs. I guess they are in a lower ratio, which I don't have.

And if a guy goes up with a 38/36 with his FD, alongside you? with the same cadence?

Who will be faster?

Nothing to do with the front dérailleur all about the ratio.

us minnows complaining about 1x setups, psst what do the pro's, winning on all circuits with their 1x setups know, if they don't work for change it, move on... :nuke: :whistling:

the okes pedaling on downhills, should stop riding their brakes...

Probably, even possibly, but in my mind it is the lack of FD that makes me faster.

i'm sure must have a massive aero plus too like the have 1 bottle in cage vs 2

to sell more ridiculously expensive parts

to create more hits on Bikehub

Make me think of the Americans spending millions developing a pen that can write in zero gravity

The Russians used a pencil..... :whistling:
