PietSw Posted February 29, 2016 Share Tried fizik 2mm and 3mm. Really nice tape but didn't impress me with longevity - especially for the money. Use shimano tape and was impressed, but too little grip for my liking. Wrapped some specialized roubaix tape over that and am happy as a pig in poo - loads of grip, good stretch, stays really dry, like really dry, and seems to be lasting really well. On a side note,if you haven't already tried double wrapping your bars, go for it. It's ridiculous how comfortable it is!I just did the double wrap myself. Its the same with my cricket bats. Just one grip feels like i'm holding a pool cue instead of a bat... The second layer of bar tape is really comfy. You should ask this... If fizik is 4.5 times the price, does it offer 4.5 time the longevity or comfort? Me Thinks Not... But that's just me and my cheapskate nature. Fresh Bar Tape at R110 every now and then probably looks and feels better than old "Name Brand" raptor-22

Frosty Posted February 29, 2016 Share I''ve only ever used Fizik and Ritchey on my first two road bikes, until I got Lizard Skin 2.5mms for my Ritchey last year. The only complaint is trying to keep white clean. In 12 years, I've only replaced the tape twice.
Maniax Posted March 6, 2016 Share I bought the Silicone brand at the expo. Quite a bargain at R299 they said. Wrapping was quite easy, although the extra pieces for behind the STI's and tape weren't includes. Luckily I had spare.Rode the Argus and cant complain about comfort. It feels much thinner and harder than my previous tape but even riding 80% of the course without gloves (I took them off at Wineberg hill already), I was never uncomfortable or had hands go numb - which is good. My complaint though is that as my hands started sweating, the drops got real slippery, to the point that I rode on the hoods instead of in the drops as per usual. Not great. TheBritishTwit Posted April 11, 2016 Share Sorry for maybe stealing the thread but where is a good place to look at price for the above mentioned bar tapes? The standard one on the roadie are starting to fall apart and that's only after 2000 km... Brought some awhile back from CWC however I stuffed up the installation and didn't see a hole and had already cut the tape... much tears, little tape. trail - er - park Posted April 11, 2016 Share ESI silicone tape. Super thick, very durable - can turn over an re-use if original side is worn. Horribly expensive but great quality if you like thick tape.
