Wait for the Drs to,pull in and give REAL medical advise, ride while you sick will only keep you off the bike longer, watch your morning resting heart rate and from what I know( not a. dr or even close) if it's in your head,,,,i.e. Head cold no worries if it's lower than your neck

Rest, medicate occordingly

I have suffered for years with chronic bronchitis, I missed it in 2014 and had 4 sets of antibiotics, 2015 i had a sniffle for about 2 days and the previous years when i had it it was similar.

They say that it only lasts 6-7 weeks, but... I'm assuming that's with a totally shot immune system, for me i find it lasts quite a bit longer, assuming that its subsidizing my own immune system.

Expensive, but worth it, there is a cheaper local version, but i'm told its not as effective.

If you find something that cures a cold, PM me quickly!!

I know a major pharmaceutical investor just waiting for something that will triple their money in double quick time.

Might not cure a cold, but may pull up the hand break before it becomes one is my plan.

I think it's called Intragram.

The best medicine is to get into bed all day and all night, drink lots of fluids and wait it out - treat the symptoms as they arrive.

If you have elevated temps or any chest and throat involvement then skip the event completely or be prepared to have complications that might take 6 months or more to resolve - and possibly never fully recover from.

I tend to agree, secondary infections are the ones that normally cause the real k.k.

If it saves me 1 course of antibiotic and 1 Dr visit a year then its paid for itself, any more and I'm ahead.

Oh and the last set of xrays for my high alt medical were all clear of any "oddities".

This and This...

Berigloben should not be "your choice", it should be prescribed to treat a certain symptom / recurring issue by someone that knows you, your history and has eliminated all other options.

So far so good, sore throat has cleared and slight temperature is gone.

The doc knows me for some time and knows I want to compete - he never mentioned any risks or side effects with the Beriglobin.  Unfortunately the Intragram generic is nowhere in stock in the Western Cape so had to go with the more costly one.

Mine is just at starting stage so want to kill it before it really kicks in. Doc says this method should work. Can't wait 2 weeks as races next and following Sinday

Should work?...If it doesn't?

Cant wait..... Why not?

Your not the first nor the last to be in this situation...we've all done it...gone against our own better judgement and good advice

Is it worth it taking a risk with your health?

Take care and good luck

Yeah from 14 days to 12.5 days :w00t:

Mo harm in trying ...no ?

If not clear by Sunday - no way I will be stupid and still participate.

No race is worth the long term damage you can do to yourself, its hard to walk away but if you are fine then race, if not then there will always be more of them.

I think that this entire thread is giving the wrong message to cyclists and the general public at large.

Beriglobin in a human blood product that is indicated to be used for very specific reasons.

From the manufacturers package insert:

"Indications

Substitution* in

a) primary and secondary antibody deficiency syndromes resulting from defective antibody synthesis.

b) protracted transitory hypogammaglobulinaemia especially in premature infants

Prophylaxis of

a) hepatitis A - before exposure - within 2 weeks after exposure

b) measles or attenuation of measles - in persons exposed not more than 1 week previously, if specific measles Immunoglobulin is not available. "

Nowhere does it state for treatment of "Viral" or "Flu Like" illness.

It does not come without risk.

Also from the package insert:

When medicinal products prepared from human blood or plasma are administered, infectious diseases due to transmission of infectious agents cannot be totally excluded. This also applies to pathogens of hitherto unknown nature.

So in summary, you are using something for an indication that it was not tested for, nor recommended by the manufacturer (In the way that you are using it) whilst still putting yourself at risk for potential infections to take part in a bike race.

I think your GP is very reckless to have given you the script and not discussed the adverse effects.

Rather have plenty of fluids, chicken soup and if you miss your bike race, there is always next year. (I have also missed bike races due to illness so I do know what it feels like).

And if you feel that your immune system is weak and you need this stuff, go and see a specialist (Immunologist) who can do the correct tests, make a correct diagnosis and work out an appropriate treatment plan.
