BigDL Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 Hi Need some advice. My SLX Crank Arm snapped yesterday whilst out on a ride. Nothing major ride wise. Had just stood up to climb a very short hill on tar and the whole thing bent in. Very glad it didn't break 15 minutes earlier when I was going downhill at 70 km/h. Is this likely to be a warranty issue? Further complicated by having bought it on my bike in Feb last year in SA and now being in Northern Ireland, or is this just a replace and pay story?

That certainly doesn't look like a JRA failure - looks as if it would have taken a rather extreme knock to the structure to have it fail like that. But yes, see if you can get it warrantied, but don't hold out any hope. There's no guarantee it'll be approved.

Looked for damage, but couldn't see anything. Not too stressed about the warranty, but more concerned about trusting the next one.

Haven't properly crashed this year and can't see any marks around the break. Will post some more pics when I get home tonight. Will go ahead and visit Chain Reaction tomorrow for a new set and then worry about warranty thereafter
Eugene Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 If i remember Shimano warranty is only 6months or so, definitely not longer than a year. I think it is out of warranty.
