Opinion on Cost of bikes

The Camber appears to be very popular.  I've just checked it out, and it also does not have the brain technology which is a plus in my opinion.  Don't need special expertise to service them. :)

I have the 2014/2015 Camber Comp Carbon being Alu rear and Carbon front with 110MM travel. My bike is full XT with Crest and dropper there are not many bikes in my opinion better at being both a trail/xc and if need be race /marathon bike

I will not have a problem with my ego downgrading. That does not bother me at all.  Maybe fix the scalpel (again) and get a toy bike and do what eddy is doing....

just leave the scalpel there incase I have a race.  Trying to sell a 4 year old scalpel that has been completely replaced is another challange :)

If I remember correctly, you came on here with a question not so long ago on which bike to replace the scalpel with, given that you are looking at more "technical, fun" riding, and it was said back then that you should be looking at something like the Camber / Thunderbolt etc as a better option as you WOULD have problems int he future if you carried on riding the scalpel like a trail bike. And here we are...

So - advice remains. Get a bike better suited to your requirements. The Scalpel will continue to let you down and break again, as you're using it outside its intended application. Which is gravel road riding. Only the recent ones with the introduction of the pivot point are a little bit more capable. Even then, it's an XC Race bike - not built for punishment unless you have an endless supply of frames.

You are 100% correct.  I wanted to get a trail bike back then, but with the Cape Epic I did this year I figured that I first want to get that out of the way.  I have done it on my scalpel, but realized that this crack must have existed the whole epic, as I was always complaining about a creaking bottom bracket.  My scalpel is the one with the pivot.

I'am waiting from warranty with regards to frame replacement, and after that I really consider selling it as almost "NEW"

yeah, my suggestion would be to sell the warranty replacement frame and then get something more appropriate.

Thank you! The time for a change has arrived.

I too race a scalpel, I love the bike and get the same mileage out of my bearings as well.

My favorite riding is Karkloof and cascades/ grace/ cedara/ Hilton. I went through the excercise of looking for a dual sus. If I had the cash and was prepared to pay it the Yeti ASRc would be my pick.

My issue is the cost, I priced a top of the range cannondale dual sus from CWC at R155k. Top of the range KTM 300cc dirt bike is R93k. I think we are being ripped off and I won't play the game.

Jip that is very scary!  I feel your pain....  And to replace these high end bikes with the same model is not an option anymore.

The cycling industry sure does cater for people prepared to operate at the very top end of the scale of diminishing returns.

And I can guarantee there's a hell of a lot more R&D going into that than 90% of the bicycles on the market.

Dumb people are easily parted with their money.

If someone can show me how the Pinarello is more technically advanced than the KTM and worth more, Ill apologise.
