I'd like to know what the sanction is. I think the rest of us law-abiding members deserve to at least know this and also the perps name.

I'm sure it'll be made public shortly. Not sure re the name, but at least the punishment as befits the crime.

Instead of club members getting the panties in a knot the club should push the land owner to lay trespassing charges. I fear that all too soon one of these club sheriffs are going to go one step too far, and I am concerned that the club seems to promote this sort of behaviour.

As in the thread where there were exactly those kind of Bat-numpties at Hoogekraal, idiots on both sides of the spectrum should be called out. The long and short of it though, is that on most occasions when very polite, repeated requests to comply are ignored by the arrogantly entitled amongst us. Noone here would pursue violence even if some chops make ill-conceived jokes about chicken-wire.

Yeah, that much is super stupid.

 

As for self-appointed - no. It's in the terms and conditions of the membership agreement - that all members are to be law abiding and report non abiding members / rogue riders to the relevant authorities. We're also tasked with ensuring that day visitors pay to ride the trails, if we see someone rock up without a board. Tell them to pay, and if they refuse, contact the landowner or a marshall to escort them off the trails. Never physically accost them, but make it well known that they need to abide by the rules, lest we lose the ability to ride on the private land. If they're with a member, take a pic of the guy showing his / her number board and send it in to the committee so that they are given a warning. 3 warnings and you're out. 

 

You would not believe the excuses we've heard... And the blatant disregard for the rules. 

 

however - as Thor says - never should it get physical, or abusive. Yes, there may be a swear word or 2 every now and then (acceptable, IMO - ESPECIALLY if the excuse for not paying is "the money is in my car" - and the car is 20m away) but no assault permitted, nor abuse.

haha! Yeah, I know. Some people automatically go to the "moer hom" approach, which is frankly stupid. Only time I'd do that is if someone else started it. I'd try my best to finish it as quickly as possible, with minimum fuss. I'm pretty good at sitting on people.

The 57 year old Bianchi rider... Yeah. In all truthfulness, voices were only raised on my end when the protagonist brought our 11 year old riding buddy into the argument. Rail against me all you want, and I'll stay reasonably calm, but don't bring a kid into it.

Ja, I saw a incident quite a while ago when two plonkers were having a go at the poor marshall lady and a couple of fellas. Luckily it diffused quickly cos I think they saw the error of their ways, but it is so unpleasant and so fricken unnecessary on a lovely morning. And the volunteers need a pat on the back, not a kick in the teeth.
