Hi all.

 

Just got a quote today for a 2016 Anthem. Was just wondering how strong these wheels are and how good are the Giant hubs that they're built on?....

They're okay as far as stock wheels go, and the hubs can either be rebadged somethings or DT Swiss, depending on the model level.

 

The wheels themselves are a bit portly, but generally very strong for what they are

I've been on mine for +- 3 years now, and my weight has topped out at 136kilos while on them and i have only broken 1 spoke and only had them trued that once when the spoke was replaced on the back wheel.

It does the job. But it will probably be the first thing you replace when you upgrade parts.

Stern. Stern but good.

 

Fine training wheels but you'll want something a bit nippier if you're going to race regularly...

They're bulletproof but heavy. Much stronger than Scott's Syncros equivalents. They're not the stiffest but you'll battle to break them.

 

Nice upgrades would be hope+archEx/flows or Chinese carbon

They weigh a ton but it will take some serious effort to break them. 

I tried for ages to break mine so that I would have an excuse to replace them and the suckers wont even go out of true

Agree with all above, been hammering mine for 3 years; not as much as a broken spoke; have totaled two Oozy Spanks in the same time. As for weight..... empty half of one of you water bottles and you just saved the supposed "weight" issue.

Thanks guys for all your input. I was concerned that these were rubbish and I would have to upgrade after I destroyed them after a couple of rides!

 

Sure they're a bit heavy, but they'll be durable for sure then. I would be really peeved if I had to look at upgrading wheels right after spending over 30k.(cost of bikes just don't make sense to me!!) Makes the decision to buy the bike a lot easier.
