IF anyone comes across any road bike helmets on special please post link here.

Budget is zero, but I'll go up to around R1500 for a helmet that offers decent protection.

Have a look at your nearest Specialized store.  I was more than surprised to see the price of their mid-tier helmets 👍

They are almost walking distance from your work.

everything is walking distance if you have the time. :)

Just slightly to far for a quick lunchtime walk though, and in my current state there is no quick walking.

Don’t know what the local price is but Giant Relay MIPS takes top honours in a budget helmet shootout and scores 5* in Virginia Tech ratings. It’s followed by the Specialized Align in the shootout.

Bike Radar

CE and EN1078 are basically the same thing and pretty much any helmet will have this rating. Almost all helmets are made in China anyway.

MIPS is the way to go.

But - make sure of the manufacture date. You need something that was manufactured within the past 2 years so that you can get a couple of years out of it.  I’ve been looking at helmets recently and it’s scary how many that are sitting on shelves waiting to be sold are manufactured 10+ years ago!

I write this from more of a 🐎 background as rotational falls are commonplace and helmet ageing is real as it continuously bending and flexing, sweat etc. You don’t want an aged helmet to contribute to your concussion instead of absorbing it!

Don’t cut corners with a purchase of a brain bucket! Spend extra and get the latest protection. Would you buy a sub standard tires?

after my crash last week I agree even more than I did before, only thing is I cant afford the high end stuff. The spez align seems to be the best protection in that price range, scores very well in testing.

But, jsut come back from the Spez store, no tock in my size at the store or the warehouse.

Yeah, don’t need the high end but if you got MIPS or equivalent then you should be good. Helmets expire and many selling them on here don’t to seem to realise this important part. But look at Easter specials. Currently Solomons has a sale on, see what they have. Good Luck in sorting your protection.🤛🏻

Have you been able to confirm the size. fit and feel, using one of their other helmets ?

If so, reach out to Specialized Tygerberg / Stellenbosch.  Mike has given me some very godd service over the years.
