Might sound dof, escept for the machined parts; will almost all of these seals, washers, gaskets etc not be standard spec? Obviously they are very specific in size, but is the polymer they are made from proprietary specific too lets say Rockshox or Giant?

Surely it wont be every single part giving in at once; I just stripped down my XT brake lever (big up to the helpful hubber that posted those pics in Jan I think) after being told by lbs that its not worth servicing.... 35 minutes of stripping and digging out grime..... One perfect brake lever instead of buying another new set.

Still certain if these components are outside of warrantee that a mechanically inclined person that digs cycling can start making seriously randelas by servicing these "unserviceable" components....

I had a mate of mine buy a brand new ks lev coz he had previous issues with the reverb. The lev lasted 4 rides and is in under warrenty for repair and has been waiting about 5-6wks. Something to do with special grease ? Or oil ?? That can only be bought from 2 places in the world . I stand under correction but something to that tune.

He has just gone and bought and bought a new reverb???? ...reverb over lev any day !

I've been lucky, had my reverb now for about 5 years and onlu jad to bleed it twice.

got a little scratch a couple of months ago so suspect I will eventually need to replace the seals.

But (touching wood) so far so good.

IMO, I don't think you should spent the money to fix it. It will eventually go again or need service, then it's another R1500 or so.

I bought a Giant and so far so good. Cable actuated so you can adjust yourself, no bleeding like the reverb.

It has an internal cartridge and when that goes (hopefully not soon), you simply get a new one and replace. They now about R700 I think.

Far easier and cheaper to maintain and works just as well.

My mate has a forca (TMars) dropper selling for R800, I really like my reverb but ja think I will take it until I can find a giant.

I want simple

There's two kinds of simple: Tmard/Force and then giant or similar.

I debated for weeks on what to get and decided the giant was the one. It's simple in that it's virtually maintenance free other than some cleaning amd cable adjusting.

It's infinitely adjustable and looks awesome.

I didn't like the force because that boot is ugly and only has three settings but in the grand scheme of things, you either have it up or down as mentioned. Also the force is R2000 for a fully mechanical dropper, seems a bit pricey. Add R700 to that and you get the giant.

There is also the Dabomb droppers that look good also but don't have any experience with them.

The upper and lower bushings, shaft keys, wiper and one or two internal o-rings are proprietary. There's also a seal in the upper tube assembly on the standard Reverb that can't be replaced - if it fails you've got to replace the entire assembly.

As for your last line, anyone with the right tools and a bit of patience can service these things. It's just messy and a bit fiddly.

To everyone saying the words "maintenance free" - there is no such thing. Hydraulic systems need servicing, deal with it. The Giant one will work until it doesn't, then you'll have to bin it and buy another one - which in the long run will work out about the same as a KS, just with a smaller initial investment.

With KS, the issue in SA is availability of parts. If you've got to send one in for a warranty it may take a while, but it'll save you money.

I had a Giant dropper on my previous bike, and I have the Reverb on my current bike and i will say this, the Reverb is not worth the money. The Giant is a third of the price and works FAR better than the reverb IMO. Even the switch felt better and gave far more mounting positions than the reverb....Plus being stealth or external all in one was amazing too! Reverb stealth...add 2000 to the external price, it's robbery in my books.

I am however interested in the new Crankbrother Highline dropper...that switch system looks awesome with all the adjustability....but since it was only released yesterday, it will probably take 6 months to just get a price here in SA

Who in the CT northern suburbs can service a Reverb dropper without sending it to the agents?

Ignore the northern suburbs, drive 15 minutes to Obs/Woodstock and take it to Droo at Stoke.
