I was in wave 2 as well, the swim felt more like a boxing match than a swim.

For me was a good training session, swim was ok although found in more rough and tumble with a lot of jostling/banging into others (perhaps the groups were bigger, Wave 2)

From the Race Numbers Spreadsheet it was evident that Wave 2 was going to be hectic in the swim. Close to 400 men in that wave. So I made a tactical decision to start at the back and to the left, still rubbed shoulders with a couple of folks but nothing to write home about. It was quite chilled and friendly at the back.

I was also in wave 2, and experienced the same. Someone knocked me so hard with an elbow at some stage that I was dizzy for a couple of minutes, even still when I got out... Made me worry at some stage if I did loose conscienceless, you would probably drown cause you'd go under fairly quickly without anyone even knowing. Wave 2 is by far the biggest group being 18 to 35, they should make it 18 to 30 or something, cause the wave after us wasn't that big.

As for the rest of the race, tough! Cycle was lekker though, I passed allot of guys on the uphills. The second half of the run was brutal, I walked quite a bit and still managed n 55min run.

Awesome event, looking forward to the 5150 in PE.

It's a pity that the first one is on the same day as the Soweto marathon.

Soweto is tough, just take it easy and enjoy the "scenery". There are some tough climbs and it is hot in November. Enjoy your first marathon!

nothing like a couple of sips of dam water!

learn to breath more and swallow less :) ... but also in part could be down to your body immune system being low especially if you are not use to pushing it to the limits

Yep, I got pretty sick on Monday, round about mid morning. It only really cleared up by Wednesday. I wasn't bedridden or anything, but had no appetite for two days and my stomach was cramping badly.

Probably something in the water, I swallowed some decent quantities of the dam water.

Yip, only hit me on Tuesday, but had a very unhappy tummy from then on until today
