I'm going through the motions, hoping they're having/had a bad day, and will come to their senses in the morning and fix the issue. Benefit of the doubt, then a roasting.

CCS have always been awesome in terms of warranties - your LBS should have zero concerns about sending goods back. If of course they know who to send it to ;-) In all fairness it could have just been a brain fart when they said Dragons.

Tell the shop to send it - Enzo will evaluate fairly and honestly in my opinion.

Had a similar issue with a brand new wide lightning wheelset, cranks would slip when pedaling.nearly went otb the first few times it happened.

Tried new cassete, chain, spacers on cassette to change chainine. In the end took it in and got the wheel replaced under warranty.

Thanks cajees centurion, awesome customer service, and I suppose by extension cape cycle works.

Now the proud owner of spare cassette, chain ☺, and wheelset, I suppose time will tell how reliable the hubs are.

I actually understood that the op bought the wheels from an online store in Cape Town? If this is the case then he would have to return it to them to sort out. The joys of online shopping. But maybe I misunderstood? Perhaps the op can clarify.

Easier to just open it up yourself, clean it, check what the problem is, light oil, and off you go.

Very easy to do - check for online manual/youtube/service info if feeling nervous about your skill

I downloaded the manual. It says to use Pedro's-branded Synthlube. What is a good equivalent, as in brand and type, that I can go and buy before taking the dust cover and freehub out of the hub body to have a check for a part that may be fubar?

I have the same wheelset. I strip when replacing bearings obviously but I use a fairly thick waterproof grease. No issues with engagement. I have about 2500km on the wheelset, 3 bearing changes so far.

This is why I ride hope.. Sorry but three bearing changes in 2500km, nee man!

But I agree, either check yourself or ask a competent bike mechanic to have a look, it could be something simple!

CCS helped me out with my ACWL before. Very nice and great service.

Wrt bearings: I have about 7000km on them now and just changed the rear bearings, in an elimination procedure to kill a creak. The bearings possibly still had some life left. Not sure how RyanD made it through 3 bearings in 2500ks?

Freewheel: It is a bit fiddly to get the axle out but not impossible. I think the freewheel mechanism is quite robust and difficult to break, just by looking at the way it is constructed. A critty sticky grease could probably block the engagement mechanism even though dirt cannot easyly get there - if you don't high pressure hose your hubs....anyway, easy to clean, grease and reassemble.

Like thickened grease in wintertime if the hubs are cold ??

Could be, I don't know.

Too much grease sticks pawls together, grease and water makes a terrible paste?

Some chain lube somehow got in there?

Correct...

No1 lesson I've learned, find a LBS and build up a relationship. Yeah, I buy grips or pedals or valve caps or things like that online. Wheel sets, frames, drive systems, etc, nee broer. That's the reason I'd rather support my LBS, saving some money buying online and then if there's a problem, you get the run around wasting days of valuable time and energy figuring out all the "nuts & bolts"! Just not worth it! If there's a problem I pop into my LBS and ask for help while drinking a coffee or a beer while the problem gets sorted

I ended up using heavy fork oil to lube my paws. Oil and grease caused poor engagement and slip.
