Canyon Spectral. Not only a good package for the money but also a frame/geometry that received a lot of good press.

hey all, been a while since I posted. Back in Aus now and looking to get a new bike in the coming weeks, but we don't have bike hub here :( hence I thought I might see if you guys had some advice.

At the moment I've got my cotic solaris hard tail with 120mm fork. I can ride most local trails on it, but want (need) a squishy bike to start taking more A-lines instead of the Bs (so to speak).

Option 1: get a do-it-all trail bike in the 120-130mm range like the new Norco Optic. There is also the Whyte T130, but our currency also not great at the moment, so would probably have to go for Yari / GX spec. These bikes seem ideal for my idea of riding and would handle pretty much everything around here, even the downhill tracks minus the big jumps and drops (which I don't know if ill ever be up for). Can get in 29er or 27.5.

Option 2: get something in the 140-150mm range such as Trek Remedy/Canyon Spectral/Norco Sight, and in 27.5, so I maximise the difference between my 29er hardtail and new bike. (I know these bikes also get sold as do-it-all bikes, but the bikes in option 1 are more genuine allrounders i think).

I'll try and ride a few of these, but need to start narrowing it down somewhere!

Go SRAM GX 1x11, you won't be sorry.  it really is not a compromise (apart from a 100grams here and there)

Had it for almost 8 months and it's basically faultless.

OK, cheers for additional replies.

Its pretty much going to come down to the Trek Remedy and Canyon Spectral then. 140-150 mm with GX, Pike and Reverb droppers.

Both are the same price here, but Trek is through a LBS so easier support. Canyon is a bit more unique and I actually think looks better overall.

Only thing is I can't ride the Canyon first - but I think I can return if we don't get along.

I'll make a decision soon, but I'm still going to check out the Whyte on Saturday because they look amazing.

Go take a look here for some "local" flavour and options/reviews

I like the look of the JAM

Or get a PASCOE 140 or 120 or 110 built up ... something special and with a bit of SA beef.

Yeah I read Flow for the local MTB news and reviews :) The Focus looks like its going to be pretty expensive (based on EU prices).

Canyon Spectral did really well in this test too, its starting to really look like best option..

can't fault a bike that scores a 5/5 for uphill and dh ... then a 4/5 for value.
