I also don't think the Venue has to get the hubs permission to work on their venue

They did the right thing by advising up front and discounted accordingly

All a good 1,5 - 2hrs drive for me lol

I wouldn't mind having a bike park near by that has to undergo some maintenance from time to time..so you guys are lucky and a bit of trail maintenance is not the end of the world.

The closest we have to a bike park is the local nature reserve and we have to be out by 8am if we cycle there.

Kekeke. Your area is more flat than jozi.

Points taken thanks!

My agenda was to bring to hubbers attention that there was no notification anywhere about the closure of the trails and only when I had paid my money was I told of the situation! My 15 year old boy with me was not happy to go else where as he had ridden the trails in the past about a year ago, and was looking forward to riding them again. He was not however aware of the restrictions until we actually rode what was available and we where both very disappointed!

A bit unfair to label somebody who has taken the time to bring this all to ever bodies attention as a one post wonder or to label my responses as immature!

Let the people know before we make the trip with our kids or at least have a sign on the door visible to all before we pay our money!

I now know that they are not seriously catering for MTBer's and their target market is kiddies birthday parties and I have demonstrated to my son that he has out grown the place and we won't be back!

Rant unwarranted in my mind.

In the near-side of the park you have:

  • Burm Baby Burm, a 5 minute section of flowy, bermy singletrack with a few advanced skills features like drop offs, ramps and a rock garden'
  • Spagetti Junction, with elevated bridges, berms, some short steep climbs and some fast flowy sections - about 5-7 minutes worth. (1,2km)
  • The Canyon - short but fun to do laps
  • The Everglades - bridges and raised platforms
  • The Pump track
  • The BMX track
  • The new skills area with jumps, drops and rocks
  • The new "slow skills" area
  • The new jumps area with many wooden berms, bridges, platforms, some skinnies etc.
  • The outer perimeter road which is nice for the draggy climbs

On the far side of the highway you have:

  • Inca (and Inca cont.)
  • Ewok

So in my mind, the OP missed out on about 20% of the park's features because of trail maintenance. Still worth the price of admission once you factor in the labour intensive and costly development of the park, not to mention the safe and secure riding environment and the proximity (read fuel saving) to the northern Johannesburg residential complex.

All the above, with the exception of the trails on the other side of the highway, ridden twice and some routes 3 times in 1 hour 10mins. Not worth the money I am afraid!!

not 100% sure on how many parks are in the area, maybe someone else can answer that, but if PWC was not for you on the day, take the 15min drive to the spruit and ride for free!  Few places to stop and have cuppa and a meal along the spruit, Delta Cafe, Trail Head and Rustic Cafe to name a few.

the main thing is there are options available in the area

......you can ride your bike from PWC to the spruit in about 10 mins ;)

How many times do you have to go around to get 30k worth of riding at PWC?

I agree that Ewok and Inca on the other side is the most fun there and I was told I'm not allowed to use the skill training bits unless i'm actually there on a skills clinic so if i'd rocked up there (and I don't live close by) - I'd be peeved as well.

As mentioned though - did you get in touch with PWC and suggest they use their website and social media to do a please note our trails xyz are currently closed for maintenance etc. - if not maybe worth the effort so that at least something good comes of it.

PS. (where do you stay - I got a freebie entry voucher to them that I don't forsee me using any time soon that you're welcome to have - gimme a shout - i don't think there's an expiry date on it - you can take your son back when the trails are open again.

Reading the first post, and then the last by Gerryonimo, I can feel his pain, especially as he mentions in the last one paid first, then told of closure. That would get my goat too!!!! That just stinks of some ill-informed/mischievous employee pulling the piss IMHO

Thanks Uni I am in your neck of the woods. We ride the Spruit and Modder often and BRB as a treat now and then, as was my intention with PWC for my son, only to be disappointed!

No thanks to the free ticket offer, the general setup of the place did not impress me, no place to sit for a post ride refreshment and as was pointed out previously birthday parties seem to be their main focus!

The B Spot at Bloemendal has been closed off and on this winter. It's also about 20% of that farms trail. Wonder what would happen if people complained about that. #komminsense

I am new to the hub and mtb, we were at pwc the day if the partial shut down and I recall a man getting very irate with the staff on this matter and I can confidently assume it was the OP. Although I am new to mtb I have ridden dirtbikes for years and I can tell you it is a blessing to know that trails are being maintained and are worth the small inconvenience. Unkept trails are dangerous far beyond the one or two ride shortening. Yes pwc is catering very much to the younger riders at the moment but having a 7y and 3y that's fine by me, I will return to pwc knowing it's not a hardcore mtb venue but a safe a fun riding area for families.

Taken from their website --> Our focus is on the younger family members and we want them to have a memorable time full of safe fun activities.

This whole thread has confirmed that they are delivering on their stated objective - you've even said it yourself. You need to be very clear on what you are hoping to get out of this thread or it's just a waste of time worth a lot more than the R80 you chose to spend for a nice ride with your son.

Mmmmm, first post nogal. I'm guessing you somehow involved with the park.

But welcome to the Hub none the less.

Nope no involvement in the park, post was simply because I was there when I believe the OP was ranting and came across the post whilst browsing. The staff were trying to assist and be polite and the story given was pretty one sided. I was referred to the site as my family wanted to look getting into MTB. I did not see an intro section.

Not sure which incident you witnessed, but there was only 1 young female rider besides my son and I in the reception when I asked to chat to the manager! Perhaps you came across another unhappy customer?
