29er, steel, hardtail, short chainstays, relaxed front end, bsa BB.....the best a man can get

What about a softail? A little bit of both worlds

not many rocks where you ride?

Nah all the Dutchmen are somewhere else.

I cant afford a decent (irrespective of the shock placement or, or) so hard tail it is. also I only ride manicured single track (well that is what they offer these days) or small things like the Cape Epic, Trans Baviaans, Gravel and Grap, Origin of Trails, Jonkers Black routes etc.

Not doing any downhill or enduro stuff so I am fine for now.

HARD tail Dick has a convincing argument...

Of course its about the weight saving, and I`m looking strictly at frame-design not weird mtb-roadie requirements like 2 bottles on the frame. There might also be a cost saving in terms of a simple top tube vs a re-enforced top-tube, not that the end user will necessarily benefit from this saving.

Edit: I hear what you say about your water bottles preference, but surely you can mount another bottle behind the ass?

Hah, classic, thanks for the laughs...

You can, but 2 bottles in the frame is better, the science tests say so.

It was interesting watching that video...like Myles has said, there is much much more to it all...in the video, watch the different brake calipers move in relation to the brake discs - the more it moves, the more "kickback" (suspension stiffening against the brake forces) you'll have when braking.

The other interesting aspect is how much the rear derailleur moves when cycling the suspension, again the more it moves the more pedal kick back you may feel as this means the chain "grows" when the suspension moves...

Lots of moves.
