depends if they ship with DHL.

If DHL they mail you and you have to pay handlng duties and tax to them.(dhl)

If something else you pay it at the postoffice.

But what happens if CRC send it to someone in the UK , like a friend, and he/she sends it here as a gift? I did it twice over Christmass and when I completed the paperwork I said it was gift. My parents did not say anything that they had to pay anything. I am asking as I too want to buy from CRC and have a friend in London.

That might work, but it's called tax evasion and is illegal. I wouldn't blurt my plan all over the interwebs if they can land me in jail...

I just paid close to 1k on VAT on my hubs and rims from CRC, pay your dues!

SARS are a nice buch of guys if you stay on the right side of them.

Like stated above; if you are doing something illegal don't blurt it on the web.

If you are importing pay your dues!

My mother in law lives in Germany and she often sends us gifts and we still have to pay before being released. I think if the value is more than a certain amount, you still pay whether a gift or not.

Also, if the goods are delivered directly to you in SA, you won't pay the UK Vat, just the customs VAT in SA.

If the goods are delivered to an address in the UK, you will pay their higher rate of VAT.

If you start looking into shipping you will soon notice that couriering (is that a word) it through CRC directly is way cheaper than organizing it yourself. Then rather pay your 14%. It works out cheaper to ship with CRC and pay tax then when you try and get it in through as a gift.

I buddy of mine send me some raspberry pi boards from the UK recently as a gift and customs still demanded I pay even though it was clearly marked as a gift. Seeing that i was really keen on it and the tax was less than what lunch cost i just paid.

Ha ha, .....to keep us honest! Lex, you are always a great help with this stuff, thanks. Oh, yes, and because I've always liked David Bowie.

Boohooo :P

Hopefully they are rather looking into people who don't pay income/company tax or the guys who avoid duties on commercial imports rather than going to lengths to find and track a Hubber who sends himself a little package.

That's where it starts.  :whistling:

a Hubber receives a package dodging taxes and duties, then he starts lying on his tax returns. But when that is not enough, he starts a Ponzi scheme. It's just all downhill from here, and end up working for the Nigerians.... :w00t:  :w00t: :w00t:  :w00t:

Isn't this the same guy who moved to Switzerland in the 70s to avoid tax debts he incurred in the States.... ;)

Uhmmmmmmmmm....

Aha as I suspected, it's a gateway thing :)
