In the race last year in A only a few of us worked in the front (5 or 6) then when it came to the last turn it was a free for all with huge sprint to line  . . .

VA previous years , my eyeballs nearly bled  . . . say no more  . . .

I see there were 25 names on the results and then a big gap before the next group.

Still too early for weather forecast ?

Windguru for Walkerville & Suikerbosrand doesn't look good at this stage.

Yeah its always windy that side of town. Kinda like Cape Town, It will blow, Just how much is the question.

Well ja that's the theory. As I am sure you've seen already last year the main group of VA got DQ'd. So what happened was a break went fairly early and most teams had someone in the break except 1 big team. So very few people where helping chase. This team(who is a very strong team) decided to chase hard and ride just to the left of the white line with the wind coming from our left. So most of us where then on the right of the road. Didn't take long and the commasaire tuned us race over for the whole group.

photos removed

That's where I dropped off the main AL group: (1) because I had burnt every match (twice) trying to help bring the break back, but also (2) because the gutter was even further right that these guys (far left of the photo).

I didnt see a single rider cross the line this weekend at Wilro. BUT that was a factor of wind direction more than dicipline I fear.

i was also wondering about this. we were out on a normal training ride that day and were going in the opposite direction of the race when the pro men past us, none of them from that entire bunch were on the correct side of the road when we passed each other, infact we had to stop to get off the road for them, which is no problem at all since it such an impressive thing to witness when a group goes by at 60-70km/h but i just thought that it was so dangerous, they had the lead car in front so im sure the race referee was in there, do pros get to use the entire road?

we passed them after they turned left after the walkerville climb, near lapeng hotel, these guys were flying and about to approach a slight bend in the road if there was a car oncoming there could have been an accident. i think it was a potentially dangerous situation

Heidelberg traffic are the only one's in the south/east that insist the race remains left of the white line. For the other municipalities, that don't even know it happens.

So, with the help of the Road Rangers, traffic officials and the lead cars, they will help to clear the road ahead for the Elite convoy so they have "rolling road closure".

For the race I'm involved with, the head of traffic in Heidelberg has threatened to stop the race completely if we don't adhere to his demand.

Sounds constructive.
