Holdfast vs Thule

Hi Hubbers,

I'm looking to upgrade to an bike carrier that fits on a tow bar and can carry 3 bikes. This would be my first time using a carrier that fits on the towball and I have some "trust" issues.

My two options are between the Holdfast one and the Thule one. I want to know if the holdfast carrier would do the job for a better price or should I spend more and buy the Thule carrier.

I want the Thule one, but the Holdfast would be better for my budget.

Thanks for the help :D

Of those 2, I'd take the Thule. Apart from the excellent build quality, it has the locking arms which are a requirement for insurance when out and about, whereas the Thule one you would need to buy extra locks in order to safeguard the bikes and prevent them from being stolen.

Apart from that, or if you're going to be buying good aftermarket locks ANYWAY, I see no reason to get teh thule over teh holdfast. Unless the Holdfast is one of the non-tilting versions, in which case teh extra benefit of the Tilting option is great.

Thule is overpriced .

With modern , rectangular , carbon  tubing on most bikes , you need to have extra straps on the crocodile clamps to hold the bikes on .

The design is good for round , ali or steel frames , but rubbish for carbon ....

Just my 2c worth .

Not sure what system the Holdfast uses .

I have the above Thule with the fourth bike option. Expensive but well worth the money!

If you are going to carry MTB's, check the width between the bikes! The Thule one is 190mm. Not sure what the Holdfast is!

Sorry, disagree with everything you said.

Do you have experience with either one or both of these carriers?

Yes, the Thule. After looking at the cheaper options, I chose that as I knew the shortcomings of the others would be a future frustration for me. I'm happy with my choice.
