DD Will be at the GTs stop stressing.

If you sponsor races, you tend to get invited.

If they lose their world tour status it may be a blessing in disguise .. they will get the invites to the big races, I have no doubt about that, and can maybe be a bit more selective of what other races they do as they won't have to commit to all the world tour races, I just hope that if they do lose the WT license that it doesn't effect their sponsorships.

But ASO have a sweet deal with DD providing the data ..and ASO have a lot of erm "say" when it comes to the UCI.. so let's see how they use that say[emoji6]

The Results from the weekend might assist them as well . Cummings  TOB victory should be giving them some good points with Sbiragli & Haas adding three more results that might help.

But I am also of the feeling that they could be better of out of the World Tour, however listening to Doug last year I do not think that is his opinion.

TOB is not a world tour race[emoji53]

So no points for world tour ranking.[emoji22]

I think Doug must make a play for Bert, the deal with Trek isn't finalised..1.. he comes with mega points (top 10 ranked)..2.. Guaranteed wildcards.[emoji106] [emoji6] [emoji39] .

The three Grand Tours

The five Monument one-day races

Nine further stage races in Europe

Seven further one-day races in Europe

One stage race in Australia

Two one-day races in Canada

One team time trial, which grants points only for the teams' ranking, with a location that varies each year.

Professional Cycling Council agrees next steps of the reform and approves 2017 UCI WorldTour calendar

23 June 2016

At yesterday’s meeting of the Professional Cycling Council (PCC) in Geneva, Switzerland, stakeholders of men’s professional road cycling agreed on the next steps of the reform and approved the 2017 UCI WorldTour calendar.

The calendar will comprise all existing UCI WorldTour races – including those in the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) portfolio.

In addition, the UCI WorldTour will welcome a number of other events in 2017 which will be awarded initial three-year licences. The full 2017 UCI WorldTour calendar, which will be announced shortly, features a wide range of top-level races that will further globalise the UCI WorldTour and strengthen the season-long narrative.

UCI WorldTeams will be given a two-year licence for the 2017 and 2018 seasons. The number of UCI WorldTeams will be set at 17 for 2017, with the objective to reach 16 a year later. From the 2019 season onwards, the number of UCI WorldTeams will be set at 16. From the end of the 2018 season onwards, there will be an annual challenge system, based on an overall annual sporting classification, between the last ranked UCI WorldTeam and the top Pro Continental Team to enter as a UCI WorldTeam in the following season. In the event that a UCI WorldTeam drops out of the top tier, that team will have the right to participate in all the following season’s UCI WorldTour events, meaning that UCI WorldTeams will have stability for the three seasons 2017 to 2019.

As of 2017 season, all existing UCI WordTour events will have all UCI WorldTeams participating and for new UCI WorldTour events, participation rules which will ensure that a minimum of 10 UCI WorldTeams take part will be proposed by the UCI for approval at the next meeting of the PCC.

UCI President Brian Cookson said: “This marks another important step in the reform of men’s professional cycling, and I am very pleased that we now have our stakeholders behind what represents the future of our sport. I am delighted that we can build on the heritage and prestige of the UCI WorldTour, while also welcoming newer but already successful events taking place in and outside Europe. We are committed to continuing the consultation with all stakeholders on various details of the reform.”

“I am very pleased that the proposed reform has reached a large consensus,” declared David LappartientPresident of the PCC. “Our stakeholders have agreed on a vision that will reinforce the globalisation of cycling, ensure stability for teams and organisers, while preserving the principles of an open system that will allow access to UCI WorldTour level based on sporting results. It is a great step in making cycling a more attractive and global sport, while respecting its roots and history.”

AIOCC PresidentChristian Prudhomme added: “I am delighted that an agreement could be found that will help the sport of cycling as a whole.”

Keep Rodriguez out of retirement - buy him for points [emoji317] - ref cyclingtips.

Lol he's apparently already coming out of retirement for that very purpose.. Katusha also want to hold onto his points.. so he will be in the squad next year but won't do many races. .. well that's the story doing the rounds. how true it is I am not sure.

Makes the system quite a mockery if you have retired guys in the teams just for their points!!

The points breakdown should go to the team and not to the individual... take for instance the sprinters... their win is often down to their leadout, the team burying itself to stop other teams getting to the front then delivering their rider for the win!

If they want to have points for the riders so it makes classification of the riders easier, then there should be points for both team effort and riders... in that way the team can score points and sort of get bonus points for GC riders i.e if there was a 100 points for the win then 60 to the team and 40 to the rider or something of that nature.
