DJR Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I'm starting to wonder about the chilled reputation of our Capetown friends. People hitting people with bikes, pepper separating each other. Twice the murder rate of Gauteng according to the latest stats. 62 murders per 100 000 people per year against 30 in Gauteng. What's going on?They are putting something in our drinking water, I tell you!
marko35s Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Ag you spoke to her, she gave her version of the truth.... and did not go to the cops for what could be construed as common assault There again if the version of the truth is not an unprovoked attack but a means of self defense as the guy felt threatened because first he was hooted at an perhaps maybe threatened with being run over... the use of pepper spray may be deemed suitable in trying to get away from the threat. Too easy to choose sides based on one persons version who can adapt to be the victim. Similarly if someone has spoken to the guy, he can come with a victim story!! Fact is it comes down to she said he said And of course another hub witch hunt! If she believes it was an unprovoked attack then she has a case to go to the police and lay charges... the fact that she has not raises questions? I take no sides but look at it as it is and am not happy that there is once again another incident between a driver and a cyclist... but name calling when none of the facts are really know is rather acting like a tjop! For him to use pepper spray he and the car needed to be stationary, rendering any attempt at a defence citing imminent danger useless. You say you take no sides immediately after indicating you don't beleive the womans story, how is that not taking sides?

porqui Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 The original post on Facebook that started the snowball has now been removed. Just be aware that Hout Bay motorists are now gatvol of cyclists (and often not without reason) especially along Empire Avenue. Engage your brain when riding through HB - you do not own the road. The roads are bad - plenty pedestrians - skorro skorro taxi's abound - motorist with attitude etc. If you have been listening to Cape Talk you would know that Kino Kammies has spoken to Province to limit access to Chapman's Peak for cyclists because of bad behaviour. It only takes one or two to screw it up for the rest.
shaper Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 For him to use pepper spray he and the car needed to be stationary, rendering any attempt at a defence citing imminent danger useless. You say you take no sides immediately after indicating you don't beleive the womans story, how is that not taking sides?Firstly we do hot know that they were stationary, secondly i have no idea what happened as does anyone else, we have an alleged and abridged version based on hearsay and possibly one side. Thirdly it is a she said he said scenario and unless we get the full facts, no one should take sides. It is too easy to be judge, jury ane executioner because an action is deemed agressive when it may well be far from the facts! I questioned that she did not go to the cops, nothing more, which raises the question why not? That is not taking sides or not believing her story, just that there are unanswered questions!
porqui Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 It's NOT a she says he says.I got the facts - klaar. They were stationary.Shaper drop it - some people get the facts first before they popSocial media is very scant on facts. There is absolutely no reason and I mean NO reason for using pepper spray on a woman FULL STOP.(I would haunt you if you used it on my wife or daughter)
bikebloke Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Little Rant .... "If you have been listening to Cape Talk you would know that Kino Kammies has spoken to Province to limit access to Chapman's Peak for cyclists because of bad behaviour." until of course all the tourists arrive for CTCT then its all "oh we love cyclists in cape town mind the cyclists you drivers " but the rest of the time the cyclists in cape town are apparently a "problem". If you ride the roads in CT you know the drivers are awful and although there is maybe no excuse for pepper spray you can understand how these situations happen. Maybe the city of CT should put more cops on the roads to get the motorists attitudes straight and get them off their phones and enforce that 1.5M law instead of going after the softest targets ie cyclists . Welcome to Cape Town the city that works for someone Else Little rant off....

Pepper spray on the move?In the end if you physically assault a woman you better have a bloody good reason.Maybe he does.

I was almost run over by a woman on Beyers today. If she hit me, I would just be as dead as if it was a man who hit me.... Just saying

Just saying I agree with your point, but if they were stationary as claimed, then there could not have been an imminent threat from the vehicle.
porqui Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 bikebloke The City and Province is pro cycling on the peninsula. Small correction - it is not a 1,5m law but a 1m by-law. Patch if you sprayed me with pepper spray for no valid reason you would be up for common assault.

Shoot her or pepper spray her? There is at least half the story untold here - if she has a case she should lay a charge and let the courts sort it out - not social media's keyboard jocks speculating. So - when is she laying a charge and if not, why not?

My serious point though is that your sex doesn't absolve you of your actions.
