To Rant or to Grumble

Over the years I've read a lot of Rants on the Hub. Sometimes they're hectic, sometimes they're surprisingly mild.

So I wondered whether there isn't space for a new category, the Grumble.

This would be something that you're irritated by, but not to the level that you're completely pissed off.

So if your LBS scratched your frame and didn't want to accept responsibility, you'd Rant.

But if you bought some pedals from your LBS and then saw the same pedals on sale there the very next week, you might just grumble.

Flipping it around, if someone wrote a Grumble about you, you'd know it's a thing, but not a huge thing. So you'd be more inclined to have a conversation, rather than get all defensive.

To take this idea to its logical conclusion I guess we'd also have to come up with category that describes when you're mildly happy about something. Not sure what to call this one.

Suggestion:

Mildly happy = Chuffed

Super happy = Ecstatic

Rants sometimes say a lot more about the ranter than the rantee.

I like the idea of a grumble though

We could have a lovely Gruffy grumble - after the Gummibear. (not the hubber, the one on TV)

Where is Gummi ? very quiet from him.

No idea but based on past threads probably riding European autumn trails, hanging out with Andy Schleck or helping a hubber solve a crime from overseas?

@Gummi is busy leaking medical info of famous athletes to the media. His main current focus is Bradley Wiggins

grumble when you look at someone's strava after a race and realise they only beat you because they cut the course...

I had this once, was 25m behind the leader in a very small MTB race. Next moment after a turn, the laaitie is gone! Nowhere to be found. So I push on, even on a lengthy cimb where you can see all the way to the top he was nowhere to be seen. As I approached the finishing straight I see the kid slowly cruising to the finishing line. I silently wind up my sprint from a long way back, I pipped him about 5m from the finishing line!  You should've seen his face!

I later learned he is a kid that lives on the farm, so he clearly knew a shortcut and used it to his advantage, well it worked up until the last 5m.

I like it when unnecessary b!$ching threads get hijacked and turned into great recipe threads.

I think this should be the norm from now on.

This could be a great ploy to continue! I'll keep this in mind when we have our next all out hand bag session!

We shouldn't have too long to wait with all the upcoming races. Someone is gonna throw their toys out the cot for entering an already oversubscribed race and moan about the people on the course, as they're new to the sport and don't have any seeding yet and this will be their first proper race! Just a question of time....
