'Dale Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 along with fatigue comes riding at slower speeds which ironically, can cause as many accidents as riding too fast.Yeah, most of my unclipping moments save-from-flop-over moments are exclusively on tight left turning ascending switchbacks ????????????
Eddy Gordo Posted October 6, 2016 Posted October 6, 2016 hmm unclipping and getting stuck at that very moment when you need to free your foot. Hence why I use flat pedals, on the road bike I clip in, but have fallen once or twice rather stupidly when coming to a stop
MTBeer Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 sooo, I had a big crash at Conters about 2 weeks ago. Pedal clipped a rock and I went OTB head first into a rock. Knocked out cold for 2 to 3 min. Riding buddy had to stick his fingers in my mouth to clear my tongue. Luckily I'm ok, but for a bit of lingering dizzyness. I might now think twice about riding alone. Take care peeps.
Cippo Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 As a side note some medical aids are contracted to certain ambulance services. Rather contact the number given by OP as it is the provincial ambulance control center number which co-ordinates wilderness rescue and helicopter evacuations. Contacting a private service may delay the appropriate service getting to you in a remote, off-road location. At organised events the service provider makes use of 4x4 ambulances.
Eldron Posted November 3, 2016 Posted November 3, 2016 Wooden bridges - scary prospects when wet! Chicken mesh should be a compulsory on all wooden bridges. Sideways along a bridge in Harkerville were two of the scariest seconds of my life. Luckily the bridge ended before I went down!

Fooking slippery.

When I'm riding alone, which isn't a lot, I take a LOT of care.

I've ridden that thing a hundred times.

Eldron Posted November 4, 2016 Posted November 4, 2016 I know that bridge. Friend of mine saw his behind there as well. Fooking slippery. Down a slight hill then easy right onto the bridge at speed? 2-3km from the end? That one. Sleeeeepery.
PhilipV Posted November 5, 2016 Posted November 5, 2016 Down a slight hill then easy right onto the bridge at speed? 2-3km from the end? That one. Sleeeeepery.I've fallen on that bridge as well. Fortunately at slow pace, but that thing is snot-glad.

NelAndre Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I am jumping in late here....Rapunzel very good post thanks. What you made me think of, is what is my emergency drill? As a rider I am risk adverse (read chicken) and my significant other knows where I am but I have never really thought through an emergency drill. Something for me to ponder. What do you guys do, what is your emergency plans?
Skubarra Posted November 8, 2016 Posted November 8, 2016 I've ridden that thing a hundred times. Glad you are ok. Thinking back almost all of my biggest falls on the Tygerberg Trails were at fairly mundane spots I have ridden 100's of times. You are probably just a bit too relaxed and switched off and then the unexpected happens.
