Those are some hectic distances shaper! Suppose that's what is needed for a full IM. Hopefully my base will look like that by next year. Should get better as I get faster too. That running is almost as crazy as our Comrads runners here.

Nice CM! Your running pace has definitely seen some massive gains. You are going to smash Sunday.

April was a quiet month recovering from IM

My running was on par with a lot of the comrades hubbers this year (give or take a 100kms or so)

Here are my numbers for the run up to IM for info (01 Jan - 31 March)

Swim 78.1km

Cycle 3858.8kms

Run 530kms

Swim 71kms (25.2hrs)

Cycle 2270kms (84hrs)

Run 479kms (46hrs)

As I have done EL and PE this year, Durbs is being done for a bit of fun ... and to complete the African Series for the special medal :)

Have you heard anything on the Africa Tour Medal? They said wthey were going to let us know but only Crickets so far....

Yea just collect with your shirt - they sold us such a story saying they would only allow qualification to enter if you had paid and entered all three events before East London closed and then the medals would be given out at the awards dinner in Durban!

I have had one pathetic email from them about being part of the tour, that is it! will probably get get another one after durban with the "electronic badge" or whatever that BS thing was.

Maybe it is because of the lack of effort I put in!

Training since 1 Mar (including Ironman)

Running             236km  (27hrs)

Cycling               608km  (35hrs) quite a few spinning classes in that

Swimming          13km     (4hrs)

Those times exclude strength training though - I do crossfit 3 times a week which I think helps me to avoid drowning.  I am not expecting to do anything close to a decent time in Durbs - just going to give it as good a go as I can and try enjoy it

If I race Durbs around 5:10hrs, but am just going to have a jol and relaxed day out as my main focus was IM this year and am doing Durbs just for the Tour medal as it is the first one, so will probably do a 5:45. I have only one goal at Durbs being a sub 2hr run as have yet to do it there... don't know why, but find the run hard even though it is flat... could well be the heat and humidity... but will give it a try :)

Eish, is that saddle as uncomfortable as it looks?!

Nope , its actually the most comfortable one i have ever owned. So good in fact that i transport it from bike to bike the whole time. you going to be there on Sunday Bob?

I meant the toe-down position, or is that just the camera angle?

Nope, won't be amongst the madness. I'm more your Tri-Relay, cycling leg kind of guy. ie I hang around the transition area, with sunglasses on, checking out the chicks and then forget to put the chip on properly when I cycle off...... :whistling:

Stats as a first timer since 1 March:

Cycling: 2456km (Epic miles in there)

Run: 166km (not my favourite sport hey)

Swim: 34.6km

I didn't follow a programme or anything - so to a degree I will be winging it. Getting excited now... just hoping to enjoy it and soak up the vibe!!
