Proof that taxis are faster through traffic than a bike

Thing is that the drivers dont care about their passengers lives.

The passengers dont care that the driver drives like, as they are already late for work, and what transport can they use to get home.

Most of these taxis drop their passengers off practically infront of their doors, where as a bus or train does not.

That behaviour is never gonna change and for this I will never make use of a taxi ever. I used to many years ago. Had similar experience and stopped using mini bus taxis.

If you mean the moral degradation, then absolutely!

But if No.1 can steal millions, surely I can break a few small rules too.

One word: Accountability

Yip, the taxis is just a symptom of the overall decay...........

Can this not be submitted as evidence ?

I heard on 567 that the western cape traffic department uses submitted videos for major traffic offenses, especially with taxi's

I must say I do the "half yellow line" driving to piss off the taxis- drives them mad and is huge entertainment! The other day I did this when a second taxi squeezed to my right and tried to run me off the road, so be careful. I do think there is something to be said about dashboard cameras... would love to know what the law says about the HYL driving strategy

I've been cycling off the road on the gravel next to the road and had a taxi flying towards me on the wrong side of the road, just like in the video (lots of traffic in the lane going the other way).  I didn't know what to do or where to go - he was heading straight for me.  He ended up squeezing between me and the vegetation further from the road leaving me squashed between him and cars coming up behind me.

I nearly laid a ferdie in my shorts.

Luckily the cops wised to this maneuver quickly and started pulling them over on this stretch.  They don't do it anymore, but do still go down the yellow line.

Sometimes the cocks who think the rules don't apply to them DO get whats coming . . . .

Yip. But that's the difference- this idiot will be punished, his insurance will not pay out and he will loose his license - you don't fool around those yellow school buses in the States or Canada.

The taxi's? Nada. No consequence.

why not spend some cash on some large grey building blocks and place them on the side of the road? make little mounds and spray them yellow and orange so that they are as clear as day light and no one gets hurt.... put them a nice distance apart so that they cannot be driven around....  yeah they will only last a week but after a few weeks they might just stop doing it?

Is that you taking the video, Natrix? Are you also not breaking the law by lane splitting when the traffic is moving. I was under the impression that it was okay to lane split while the cars were standing, but once the cars start moving, you are obliged to move into the lane.

No axe to grind, I'm just asking. It looks fkng dangerous, esp with the calibre of drivers on the road today.

Not condoning the taxis behavior. BUT these guys filming on their bikes are also braking the law of the road. I see plenty bikes riding on the yellow lane and overtaking on a solid line. It seems like at this stage no one really cares on our roads. Everyone does what they want and traffic just gets worse. Anyways just travel safe and avoid.

No mention of traffic standing still or moving in the laws with regard to lane splitting on a motorcycle that I'm aware of, where do you see this?

Two very different points.

Not illegal, but it is only dangerous because of the other road users who are breaking the law.
