I can't wait for the time to come when the grand tours limit the sizes of the teams to give good riders in the smaller teams a better chance.

Big teams will still have massively bigger budgets. It will just make grand tour team spots more desirable and scarce. Not level the playing fields for the smaller teams

Exactly

What a silly idea

Meintjes could have been in 8th if he did not blow on that last climb.

Landa, Fugelsang and Bennet overtook him to get into the top 10 for GC. Such a pity as I thought he was going to be stronger this year compared to last year. I guess we will have to see. The tour is not halfway yet.

So when someone has a mechanical it's not cool to attack? But when you stop to take a **** the group doesn't wait either. Load of bollocks this can't attack crap.

Not bollocks. That is the unwritten rule / gentlemen's agreement in road cycling.

http://theconversation.com/unofficial-rules-of-the-tour-de-france-matter-most-28841

"Some of these unofficial rules include:

  • don’t attack the yellow jersey (race leader) on the last stage, even if you’re only seconds behind in the general classification
  • don’t attack in the feed zone, or during a nature break
  • don’t attack the yellow jersey or other contenders if they crash or experience a mechanical incident
  • riders can draft behind the team cars or take a “sticky bottle” to get back to the main bunch (especially in the case of a mechanical incident or crash)
  • race leaders and the experienced riders in the peloton (main pack of riders) can call a neutralisation or go-slow if race conditions are dangerous"

It depends on how many friends you want in the peloton on a windy day. Nobody said you shall not attack.

Also this: "Sometimes, if the pace is slow, a local rider may be allowed to ride ahead to greet his family at the roadside: what he mustn't do, is use that "leave of absence" to try to win the stage."

Saw it yesterday? or day before...

Nonsense. Nobody was going to wait for Uran if he were to change bikes. They saw the win and they were going to go for it.

Uran is not in yellow... perhaps read the unwritten rules first

lots of opinions on the wait for yellow "rule"..In my opinion if you already on the attack and it happens there is room for it..BUT when you sit in the group more than happy being paced by the leaders teammates and he picks up his hand to show everybody he has a problem and you go at the same moment you are a f#$%ING idiot!!!!
