'Dale Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 The skinsuit in question..... kiri.jpg Isn't there a brand of TT helmet that's dimpled like a golf ball as well? Maybe UCI rules differ for clothing vs helmets? Sounds like a bit of 'dammit, why didn't we think of that' to me. Anyway, everyone now has the greenlight if they want it, granted tricky to implement within the current TdF... Europcar had a version of a golf ball looking aero helmet a lil' while agoHaven't seen it again
shaper Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 More bitching and moaning about the marginal gains that sky introduce in pushing the envelop of cycling!! Wouldn't be the Tour unless the teams did....
Gen Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 More on sky suits http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/skys-vortex-generator-skinsuits-questioned-by-tour-rivals-but-permitted-by-commissaires/ "We already tested vortex generators three years ago in the wind tunnel and the effects were very advantageous," Grappe told reporters before stage 2 in Dusseldorf. "I went to see the commissaires and reminded them that this was a rule modified during the winter. The rule said that new materials were now authorised for using skinsuits, so we made a lot of different skinsuits with our partners, modifying the textiles used so as to penetrate the air better. It's inside not on top[emoji39] "We called the team to the race headquarters after the stage," said Marien. "We examined the skinsuits and it [the vortex generator] is integrated into the fabric, so it's not really a violation of the UCI rule. I can understand the rationale of other teams, but for the moment, we have no real way of forbidding it." Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Cav' Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Whats up with Sagan's hair:He's got shoulder length hair, but looks to have some sort of undercut to accommodate his glasses and the helmet's adjusting mechanism. http://cdn.media.cyclingnews.com/2017/07/02/2/tour_de_france_helmets_18_670.jpg
gummibear Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Flip, that settles it. Gonna make sure that we visit Europe in July 2018!Just do it[emoji106]
shaper Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 Yet Moviestar have been riding with textured skinsuits since 2015 and no one bitched and moaned about them http://www.cyclingweekly.com/news/racing/vuelta-a-espana/will-this-innovative-new-skinsuit-help-nairo-quintana-win-the-vuelta-188444 At the Tour de France Movistar’s riders wore skinsuits with ribbed upper arms and shoulders. However, the skinsuits worn by Nairo Quintana, Alejandro Valverde et al in the stage one team time trial of the Vuelta had replaced the stripes with a new surface texture technology- which appears to use lots of small arrow head shaped protrusions to create frequent changes in texture. Sour grapes me thinks....

The undercut thins out the hair which makes it easier to handle and not so heavy on your head especially when you tie it up, it also gives more shape and you don't end up looking like you have a grass roof as hair. He has worn his hair like that since he cut off the long hair. Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

He's trying to create an extended aerofoil behind his helmet!! Just a matter of time before the other teams have a top secret barber department ensconced in a wind tunnel......
Gen Posted July 3, 2017 Posted July 3, 2017 You learn something new everyday. Thanks Gen.He he he.. it's a trick that the hairdressers are using atm.. I know this because I have a lot of hair and when I went to have my long hair cut off last year (because i got gatvol of headaches etc ) I did something similar. .only my hair is not in a bob shape and much shorter..it really is wash and wear now.[emoji106] Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Bonus Posted July 3, 2017 Author Posted July 3, 2017 And so the Tour de France thread takes a short excursion into the world of hairdressing and then back again . . . :-)

Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk When other teams use similar tech in their suits - nothing. Not being biased in opinion but it really is getting a bit like sour grapes in terms of tech and the use thereof. Sky puts 4 riders in the top 10 of the TT in the rain so it has to be their skinsuit. Nothing to do with bike handling or tyre choice (which in the wet could possibly have provided a greater advantage) Everyone laughs at Sky's "marginal gains" claims but are quick to nit pick when they get piped at the line or stopwatch. So if it is illegal - ban it or shut it simple as that.
