CogitoErgoSum Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 From this it is clear Sagan drifted across and closed Cavendish's space down. He didn't even flinch when pushing Cavendish into the barriers.... I'm not saying Sagan pushing him into the barriers was fine in anyway, but given the speed that this happened at its quite conceivable that Sagan didn't reasonably know what the consequences of his actions were going to be. If I was in that situation, as impossible as that is, and someone was leaning against me, I would do what I can to keep myself upright. Survival instincts always win out.

Cavendish "leaned" into Sagan because he couldn't actually lean on the barriers. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk

I understand making an example out of someone, but will this really change anything? Doubtful, next sprint stage will still see people veering across the road, cutting people off, sneakier elbows.
'Kaze Pete Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Cycling News : A look at previous disqualifications at the Tour de France
Eugene Oppelt Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 It's possible that the race jury will review their decision with newer evidence They can do whatever they want as they're in charge Chances are slim, but possible ????
'Kaze Pete Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Aldag on Cycling News: "About the incident: Crashes happen and that is part of cycling. Who's fault was that today? Peter? Cav? Both? Probably a fair share from all involved, and that includes more than Mark and Peter. But what I just can't understand is Peters elbow out there," wrote Aldag. "Peter is well deserved World Champion and has to be a role model for the sport. Do we want to see these accidents more often as it becomes normal behavior, or do we want to see it in the Junior or Kids races? I don’t think so, but how do we explain that this isn't the way to do it if the best riders in the world do it? That’s why I think that there had to be consequences today."
Tubehunter Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 If any of you were strong enough to have been a part of this sprint you would know that there will be serious jostling for position and people attempting to take wheels wherever they can in the run up to the finish as every bit of drafting assistance yields massive gains for those final metres. Sagan reacted to Demare sweeping wide to come round and by his own admission knows he was in the wrong to take Cavendish's line away, as he did not anticipate him being there. Why else would he go to the bus to apologise? Was there malice though and did it warrant a DQ? Not in my view. The elbow everyone is fixated on is a non event and from Cavendish's bike hitting Sagan's arm.
Gen Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 I was hoping I would feel better about it this morning.. I don't One thing I will say is that the double world champ and someone who is highly respected within the peloton and who is also one of the good things about cycling, deserved better than a knee jerk reaction from the them. They made the decision really fast, they could've reviewed all images and videos for a long time before making a decision. He isn't know for being a dirty sprinter. .yes sprints get ugly but it's not like he is known to do things that Bouhani does hell Cav is known for going in with his head and has gotten away with causing plenty crashes.. Greipel had elbows out during that sprint too..Demare was all over the place almost taking Bouhani out.. all I am saying he as least deserved for them to really take their time and review it more before ruling. So much lead to that incident the sprint was a complete mess..almost all if them we're all over the place. Yes and it isn't the end of the world and life goes on and the Tour will continue. But it has lost a lot of spice... Go Greipel!!! Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk

Squier Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Really stupid decision. Relegated, perhaps. DQ, no way. Dimension Data losing a lot of support today. Oh well, I guess the kids can walk.
Tothehills Posted July 5, 2017 Posted July 5, 2017 Also trying to make sense of what happened.Look at the sequence of pics and make up your own mind
