Had some indifferent training weeks due to various reasons.  Saturday is a 5 hour Kickr ride in the Alps.  Next week is a 60km running week and from there I will focus on interval training

Some social plans for this evening have been cancelled, and I am so relieved because I can get my Wattbike out of the way earlier and get to bed...

Those sacrifices are becoming real.

On the last lap of the run I am always like: " Why am I doing this?; Never again....."

but as soon as I hit that red carpet I am like: "Snap... I have to train harder for next year....  "

In my case, this is my last one ever ,definitely forever , never again.

And yes I have said this before but this time I really really really mean it...the crap I have been through the last 6 months with injuries and illness brought on by the training regime makes me realize I aint an athlete. Will just do 70.3's from now on I reckon.

Very similar-next week will also get close to 60km on the Run, the main one being a 32km on Saturday and then Sunday my last 180km ride then start dropping Duration and Km's. Wont be changing my swim distances until the last week.

Is the Bike route confirmed-same as 2016?

Yes. But subject to change. Normally any changes are communicated by around November. Very unlikely to be changed at this late stage.

My longest ride thus far has been 125kms but with loads of elevation. No way am I going to get a 180 Kay ride in. Will have to wing it a bit.

In 2014 my longest training ride was 120km and the IM route was tough. I only started to get grumpy at 150km. So I think if its the same route as 2016 then you will be fine with 120-150km bike as prep, also if you did it more than once it deals with the frequency variable.

The 2014/5 route took it out of me I must admit. 2016 not so much. Will try an get an ultra ride in before IM but think I will run out of weekends. Depending on conditions it might get interesting. The cycle leg is relatively easy compared to the run I reckon conditions dependent.

So glad to hear I'm not the only one starting to tire of the training load.

But at 95kgs, that run terrifies me, so onward we go...

Miles in the bank... on the day it will be a great feeling knowing you have done the miles

Did you do this ride at the cradle on Sunday? How was that fog!? Felt like I swam through the first hour..

Cycled from Sandton at 5:15am with the fog, only cleared when the the sun was up and was 1:30hrs into the ride at the top of the hill past the cradle restaurant... felt like was cycling a completely different route to normal.  At some points was so thick could hardly see 50m in front of me.  Has a nice 6hr ride.  This weekend will be my last long ride then will also start dropping duration.

Cycled Saturday in the rain an Sunday in the fog. Now I got a tickle in my throat. Grrrr

Sunday turned into a glorious day though.

1ST timer:

Been following predominantly the Iron man 101 program,(added intervals to the proposed timed sessions) managed to follow it to the letter up until this month where it suggests 6/7 hour rides: i did : 2 x 6 hours & 2 times 4 hours - life happened - max KMs: 137 (5:30) and this weekend 150km (5:59)(which included the herald cycle tour).

also completed the half in EL as training for the full event in 7:11

do i move to lower hours as program now suggests 4hours or do i push to to get two more longer sessions in?

long runs have been ok ish - 25,30,35 for the month missed the one long run felt  pain in hamstring and decided to skip

Swimming is on Par - average joe but very comfy in water

Hi

My advice, stick to the program. 4 hour rides are sufficient imho. The cycle leg in PE is gentle.

Don't worry too much about the missed run (or any missed sessions) as by now the foundation is laid. The hard yards are now effectively behind you.
