Wonder why its all done so quietly, normally done with fanfare on Face cheese etc.

Very few ZA pros in the field too.

I expect the fanfare in the next day or 2, hubbers are always on the ball in finding info first beforehand!!

Anyone have any experience with PE water temps and a wetsuit? More than likely going to rent one, even just for the buoyancy, just would like to know how much of a deep breath I'm going to need when running (walking) into the water!

Lived in PE 'till I was 25 and used to do a lot of biathle where no wetsuits are permitted. They do things a bit backwards in that code: run – swim – run, so you are obviously warm by the time you hit the waves. Even so, there was no need for the "deep breath". The water temp normally hovers between 18-21 degrees.

But opt for a wetsuit, even if it is, like you say, just for buoyancy!

I just want to be 100% sure....

Is personal seconding allowed? I can't seem to find anything in the race info guide but from what I remember an athlete is not allowed to receive any outside assistance (food/drinks/nutrition) form spectators.

All I actually want to know is: Are you allowed to get some food or other nutritional stuff from your spectators/support or do you have to pack that stuff in the special needs bags?

I was hoping to bum a beer from someone towards the end of the race....

Of course it is.  Get your girlfriend / wife to drive behind you in a car and hand you stuff when you need it.  Also when the wind picks up let them drive in front of you and motor pace a bit

For maximum benefit you can also ask her to build you a "woelpoel" somewhere along the run route and fill it with ice water for you to cool down in every now and then.  If she is a nurse she can even give you a quick glucose drip while you are chillin in the pool maybe eating some "sosaties" that they also prepared for you.

Thanks for the info guys.

On a side note - anyone have a spare triathlon saddle lying around at home? Preferably something short and narrow. Only got hold of some clip on bars for my bike about a month ago, and after my longer weekend rides with the clip ons, it has taken a few hours to re-gain feeling in the nether regions!

I would be more worried about making sure it fits right and at least get a swim in before you use it to know where to apply Bodyglide and get used to the feel
