Not take anything from the current racers . .

But

The GU

must be sitting somewhere,

watching this tracking,

seeing where JN's blue flag is now,

thinking where he (GU) was,

what played down from around here to the end . . .

and just rubbing his hands in anticipation to start prepping for next year.

(that is what I would do if I was him)

He is acting as mechanic if I am not mistaken.. sorting out bikes while the riders rest..

He was looking good for the win last year.

Yup, not the type of thing for the feint hearted or weary. Drops 840m in 10km.

completely different race though...those conditions on the first two days were absolutely brutal and has slowed the field down significantly

And they are on the move again..

It's funny.. cause it looked like HV moved first and then almost as if JD noticed she went again... yes yes I know the tracking thingy.. but I am making up commentary as I go along.. just cause I can.. and in my mind this is what happened. [emoji12]

Grant will know this - he will also know it could be Martin and Jeannie on the start line next year to contend with... and whoever else. Such a long event, so many nuances, so many tactics, so many things that can go wrong. Respect

Okay imagine you're Christi Viljoen here's your stats you've completed 405 km at an average speed of 8.7kph. Here's what you have left 681km in 73 hours meaning that you have to average 9.32kph to finish in allotted 120 hours (Although it appears that she has to be speed up bear in mind she's just come off a 6 hour rest which brings her average down).

This would be my plan to ensure a finish

- assume stops of 16 hours in total.

- leaving you 57 hours to ride 681 km at an average of just less than 12kph.

But where to stop RV3 is at Loxton 593km which makes this stint a relatively short 190km (I can't believe I just said that's short!), so perhaps you should press on to WP7 649km and try and be there at 8 am tomorrow. 8 hours kip has you leaving at 16:00 on Saturday with Sutherland RV4 812km before 6:00 am on Sunday as my next target and perhaps take a 6 hour kip leaving RV4 at 14h00 targeting RV5 1018 km by 7:00 am on Monday . It's mostly downhill from there with one mother of a climb so maybe I'd take 1 hour kip leaving at 8:00 with 5 hours to finish the last 60km ( you can take 2 but then you have to average 15kph the backmarkers did about 20kph last year so you have something in the bank).

You can argue with my strategy if you want, but the point remains imagine doing this calculation while you're on the road having completed 400+ km in the searing heat. I think you need a back up team!

Trust me those calculations you do all the time while riding . Not a lot else to do anyways !!  :whistling:

Wonder why Martin isn't riding.. his turn to see to the kids maybe..[emoji6] in my mind they also take turns [emoji12]

Perhaps the role of mentor is what he is enjoying most.

I'm sure I'd be doing the calcs the question is whether I'd get them right

Very difficult to do that when you are tired

What is going on with Jeanine's tracker thingy.. last updated 18min ago...must have decided not start with HV again.

And she is just on the middel of the road. Hope there aren't any mechanical issues.. and I hope it is just a tracker problem
