The circus area is probably more consistently windy too. Gives better echelon training too. Otherwise we just get Gerald to organise some of that wind from Sunday.

true, was trying to not to mention the wind though ????

Wait for a lekker windy day and then go do echelon training in the cradle. At the same time we will put a notice on the residents FB page to go out and practise some patience   :whistling:

agreed if the cradle is as busy as what everyone says it is. Never ride there so don't know. We are about same pace, maybe an EASY ride at sbr is not out of the question?

the cradle is going to be busy and SBR is turning up the wind for Saturday, so that can end up being a proper Sufferfest.

My plan was to ride SBR on Saturday and an easy 2hr spin on Sunday. So if the guys are going to meet up then let me know and I will make a plan.

So what would be the first step for this process to get going?

Some suggestions:

First step is to identify who is wanting to take part;

Second step is to identify the 2017 events where this will take place - I don't suggest the Ride for Sight as it's the second larger event on the calendar (by numbers) in Gauteng. Perhaps one race per quarter.

Third is to find out more about each person (race results history should indicate this). If 1 person can't keep up, the group shouldn't have to wait, but the pace needs to be agreed upon before and then enforced on the day so everyone is clear on the plan.

The most common denominator between each should be the winner. A race is identified and everyone enters. The group then arranges a specific spot to meet, at a certain time and rides to the "back" of the agreed start group, so as not to interfere with the group and possibly get lost within the group. Start off a bit slower to allow a gap and then increase from there.

Where do you live Pikey? (Trying to work out what clubs would suite you.)

Alberton- have done a few rides with a couple of the Albion guys . But haven't done a wkd ride with them as yet.

I also have spoken to Gerald about Germiston wheelers as well.

Have a problem waking up ...

Apparently 05:00 is way too early for Pikey. The 06:15 start in summer is half a day wasted IMO.

Would Fast One not be the most realistic place to start?

(I realise it comes up sooner than most expect in the new year)

I have a club/race team meeting tomorrow night that requires planning for 2017. The guys (and a few ladies) have to commit to races for The next year. I can use the same list of events (step 2).

A Google sheets list of names with a tick for the races each hubber (and friends) plans to do can be created. (Step 1)

We then take it from there.

I also can't commit to certain events due club and race team (sponsor) obligations.

It's not called the early bird ride for nothing.

32-34km to get back in time for the club ride that starts at 06:15.

By 08:00, its possible to have done 100km, and still get another 30km in plus coffee before 10:00.

Time, not tone (freakin auto correct)

I would also be interested in this.  I am new to road bike racing - have only done 6 races.

An added issue for me is that I start slow, which means I can never stay with the batch I am starting with - and I have to latch onto passing groups.  If I can improve some techniques, learn from more experienced riders, etc it will be a awesome.  I am more than willing to do my fair share at the front as well, just normally don't get the chance

Starting slow has never been a problem in mountain bike races as I tend to pass a lot of people towards the end of the race and finish in the top third of the field, but in road races I am a lot more "exposed" and normally end in the bottom third of the field.

I stayed with my starting batch this past weekend at Carnival, but burnt too many matches at the start and got spat out the back of my bunch around the 35km mark - and then had to solo home, latching onto people here and there

Try to do a warmup ride before the main event.  I am talking about 15km especially for 947 where we start on a hill. You will feel the difference.

Agreed who's in and when & where?

What about Saturday 3 December at the Circus in the South - i agree with the comments that is the best place to get this working. We could probably arrange a few guys from our racing team to be there.
