Road tyres....are you led astray?

I would say that without tyres you could not race motorcycles at all - me thinks?

My bicycles typically do nothing.

If 70 to 80 cyclists all use the same tyre I would ask or at least wonder why.

But then I'm not really qualified to comment.

Ai, and the bar has been set higher again

Approximately 9 bar from what I understand.

In other news, I'm in IT and a SQL DBA. The only definitive answer I'll ever give someone is: "it depends...".

I'll just keep running 28c tubeless @ 6bar on my roadbike.  :whistling:  :whistling:  :whistling:

Schwable Ultremo...any variant

Gatorskins feel dead.

I weigh 97kg

My bike 6,7  or 9kg for the Steel one.

I like to ride hard...so little comfort lost is not an issue.

i dont pose................

if you dont see my point...dont lose any sleep!

You sound like a Stevens :P

anything else than the Schwalble, keen to try other brands. But had no feedback.

I do quite enjoy the comments of the many ""sharp" hubbers, ...without....this site would be boring.

I have paid school fees with over inflated tyres. One burst in two places during a race and a MTB one just popped of a rim. Hence using tyres that can handle the pressure.

How critical are tyres for motorcycle racing? Bicycles typically do the same thing.

If you only ever stick to Gatorskins because the dudes at the bike shops push them, and 70 of the 78 members (sheep) in my social bike club use them,......then you not qualified to really comment.

That said you are entitled to rant and protect your tyre of choice.

PS I run my track tubby at 7.5 not 9

And if you stick to Conti's because they are made by ze Germans ?

so you qualify to comment on this holy thread as long as you dont run gatorskins... and if it happens to be your tyre of choice after doing some experiments, you're a sheep for it...

i'll make a note to come back more like you in my next life.  maybe then i'll know something about cycling

What if you run them because you've found them to be very very good at not getting punctures, and getting home safely is more important to you than saving 2W?

Probably going to jinx it now, but its been a few years with no punctures.

I know there are faster tyres, and no doubt other brands have tyres that are very puncture resistant as well. But the faster ones are even more expensive than the steadily increasing price of Gatorskins, and the other brands' puncture resistant ones cost pretty much the same.

Some day when I can afford new wheels, I'll try out tubeless and test the tyre options available. Until then I'll stick with what has served me well.

(I cracked a set of Open Pro's once, hitting a pothole at 70km/h on a downhill in a bunch. I doubt tyre pressure would have made much difference)

Considering that most tyres are either the same price as my car's tyres or more, I am inclined to buy the ones that are going to last and give me the least hassle. . .

Let's imagine for a second that said tyre that is getting so much abuse on here is actually good at doing it's job (shocking I know, but bear with me), and that most people buy it because of the good experiences they have had with it, why should we then conclude that the tyre is bad just because a lot of people have it and want it, and thus by the magical powers of supply and demand most LBS carry it?

A lot of people drink black label, just because you like your craft beer more doesn't make black label bad. . .
