Anyone know what mechanical support means en route? Can we expect neutral service vehicles like in TdF or just roving mechanics.... will most likely sway my decision on tubbies vs clincher.

For those interested, I mailed race organisers, and here is the answer to my question;

We will have bike repair centres at the start as well as finish. Bike repair centres will also be located at the two feeding stations. The neutral assistance will be for immediate mechanical repairs, excluding tyre replacements.

So in other words not quite the full TdF experience as advertised.

Lol

I kinda of gathered that much.

Also I think I read that on their website that mech assistance will be at the feeding stations.

No ways they can have enough service vehicles out on the road with so many riders.. it would be dangerous

Yeah stationary mech assistance.... for a road race. I'm starting to regret parting with my R1,000 for this thing.

Would have hoped that they would at least have had a support vehicle or two for licensed categories... for a true "TdF experience"... as advertised.

Sigh.

From what I hear from people that have done the events in other countries and other ASO sportives it really is quite the experience..but also they approach it as a fun ride not a race..so different strokes I suppose, so I am going by that..you get the advertising banners the road closures and support at mech stations. And bla bla bla.

I actually never once thought there would be support cars hey.. just too many riders on the road for that.

The licensed guys can go battle it out for the jerseys..me I am just going to finish the race and enjoy it as much as I can..no racing for me..just riding and enjoying it..(I hope)

I have 10hrs to enjoy it.[emoji6]

I sincerely hope it is not mass start. Otherwise its going to be an epic disaster.

Only cause you want to race[emoji6]

It's a neutral start so chill have a chat just like they do at the TDF..there is your TDF experience [emoji12]

This is true...

But I am also very concerned about sharing the same piece of tar with 1000+ riders of varying speeds and ability. It is a recipe for disaster.

You make a valid point but I think this concept works well in Europe that is why they do it like that.. here in SA everyone wants to race..[emoji23] [emoji23]

I am just going to take it as it comes.. I reckon the guys riding with a racing licence will probably go off first and then the rest will roll through.

It's a well rehearsed race launch

Heard, or read?

Guess a review of their website may be in order.
