MJ the Expat Posted December 4, 2016 Share My wife and I did a mtb race recently. In the ladies category, one of the podium contenders's husband rode with her the whole race and she could just sit behind him riding slip all the way. My wife also got podium. She said she does not think she would have beaten the other girl if her husband was not there but she kind off settled for the minor positions knowing she is not going to beat this couple working together. During prize giving they also won a catagory created for first couple in so the race organisers did not see any issue with it. So my question is should men be allowed to "support" female podium contenders?
Sitting@89 Posted December 4, 2016 Share If the race commissaire and rules allow it then all is fair in love and war. Very misleading title and unfair accusations!
DJR Posted December 4, 2016 Share Interesting one that. It is an issue in road racing as well.
Patchelicious Posted December 4, 2016 Share I've seen this at K2C before. Not sure that I agree with it. It has a twang of cat piss about it.
Formallyknownas Posted December 4, 2016 Share I'm not sure how much benifit wheel sucking on an mtb generates in terms of aerodynamics. If memory serves you only benifit if you're cursing at 35-40km/h minimum.
'Dale Posted December 4, 2016 Share NopeNot cool Why would anyone take glory from such unfair advantage? ????

lechatnoir Posted December 4, 2016 Share She could sit behind anyone in the race. Perhaps they just like each other's company and are good riders anyway?
pista Posted December 4, 2016 Share NopeNot cool Why would anyone take glory from such unfair advantage? Theres a his & hers category so it's not really unfair.

Patchelicious Posted December 4, 2016 Share Theres a his & hers category so it's not really unfair. You shouldn't be eligible for both categories. You must enter either. If you want to races mixed then race mixed, but then you can't use that as an advantage over others in the ladies cats.
MJ the Expat Posted December 4, 2016 Share I don't think it is just about the aero gains...Having someone there to encourage you to keep going, may even push you up some of the climbs...you may even take risks you would not as you know there is someone there to support you...all that makes a big difference. But like I said, on the flip side, this kind of support discourages the other contenders. I think it is unfair for this to be allowed. Woman should be competing on a fair and equal footing with each other.
MJ the Expat Posted December 4, 2016 Share Theres a his & hers category so it's not really unfair. Not really. There was no "team catagory" on the entry page. This was an individual race only. Also there was no "team catagory" prizes advertised.
