As I said, I am only willing to close the door if you to stand in. Now go stand in the door.

I just learned that my niece's two little girls (aged 9 & 7) was raped by three lowlifes while they were in foster care, so yes, Saudi style justice will work just fine for me at this stage..... :cursing:

So sorry to hear that, Wannabe. I didn't reply to the story about your niece and drugs the other day even though I wanted to at the time. In retrospect I wanted to ask about the kids and the generational impact, and was going to ask whether the sins of the parents might be inflicted on the child. I am horrified to hear that that is the case.

But I was also going to say that the most important sentence in the entire post was 'we are giving her all the support we can' and I hope to every last fibre that that will continue, because she and the girls will need it more than ever.

Do I as a member of society value the contribution of this journalist?

Not really. Because what he told me about Norton is not new. Norton's story has been told already.

Nothing in there is going to prevent the next attack is it?

In fact, this story has divided society: Those that want to help Norton the kid and those that want to terminate Norton the criminal.

Not often that a crappy article from a crappy journalist with nothing new in it elicits more than 200 reponses (and counting) + some warnings from admin on thehub, and to think you didn't even read half of it  ^_^

The best we can try and do is to prevent Norton the criminal from happening in the first place and that may be the only positive thing about this article; raising awareness about the importance of family and not using drugs etc.

If you tell me this is news to you then were are more fooked than I thought.

You are right, actually nothing new here, but then us humans are not particularly good at listening nor from learning from the past so maybe there is value in repeating stuff to us repeatedly from slightly different angles...

Maybe you can give us some detail on this journo's reputation or lack thereof with his peers that you found? Some pretty stong accusations you are making?

Just in general - I am also certainly not comfortable with the idea that the journo knew about a potential crime and chose to keep quiet for the sake of his relationship with Norton and the story.

That said, it is easy to sit behind the anonymous safety of my pc and criticize after the fact, he had to make a quick judgement call while being in a somewhat dangerous situation dealing with a dangerous individual.

Okay, so my assumption is based on the fact that Norton's tale is not a new story, and does nothing to make him stop, or to coerce the SAPS into better policing. Therefor, I based my comment on the assumption of two points.

A) He, being the journalist, writes these kinds of stories all the time, so his journalistic slant is towards the criminal underground side of society. - Check his website / blog for evidence of this. http://www.kimondegreef.com/#about

B)The only people who will really be "impressed" (I use this term loosely) by his journalistic antics are obviously other journalists. - Kind of like I don't really see people harping on about scuba diving on a cycling forum...

So in a gist, I am just asking the question whether it is a valid reason to let a known criminal continue unhindered when I KNOW whereabouts he is, and what he is potentially up to. That says very little about your character as a human being. I simply do not buy the whole "journalist ethical" excuse / baloney. I see that as an convenient excuse you keep telling yourself to avoid the cold hard fact that you are allowing someone to be potentially harmed or even killed...just in order to be able to tell a story that will not change the world.

Ok you`re forgiven this time, but remember next time not to engage the troll, I expected better from you.

sadly I cannot say the same about your responses.

This journalist needs to go look for his missing morals, there is no doubt about that.

Don't make sophisticated ad homonoid attacks, Slowbee. You are cutting off your nose to spite his face, as they say in Saudi, like.

Edit: getting a 'like' from Grim #moraldilemma

I haven't gone through all 14 pages but I completely agree with what you said here. Doesn't matter how the guy ended up in the situation he's in, or who's fault it is. The fact of the matter is he's a criminal and a murderer and should be taken off the street permanently.

I think it was mentioned before but it's worth saying again:

A journalist has to be able to protect his/her sources; it may be unpalatable at times but it's a pillar of a free press.

Examples such as the Watergate scandal and various stories about the present day government in this country are testament to the ability to protect a source.

Thanks for the link. I will take a look

I don't know if it is really a jounalists job to "make the Norton's stop"  or "coerce the SAPS to do a better job" "change the world" etc

imo they provide information and then it is up to society to react if necessary.

Was the information in this instance worth endangering the potential mugging victims, probably not but then that is something that is not easy to judge in the moment, either way he has to live with the consequences.

This is very true.

I coach my son's hockey team and there is one kid that has incredible talent.. he has progressed so much this year from a beginner to part of the provincial HP squad (hoping he will make the final team) but he never has anyone next to the field supporting him... there is also very little money for the expense it takes to get him from Orkney where he lives (he goes to school in Klerksdorp) to Potch for the Friday HP training sessions.. so I made sure he rides with us every Friday as my son also has to go to the sessions... we don't live in Orkney but I am happy to travel the extra kilos every Friday and drop him off at home because that kid deserves a shot at developing his game.

Not only has his hockey improved but he has grown so much as a person.. he has gone from an angry kid with very little self discipline to one of the hardest working players in the team.. that kid, man I just love him to bits. We all do even my youngest had his name on his bday party list. Man that kid has crept in our hearts and will stay there for a very long time.

Lol.. his nickname is Klokkies (a nickname he gave himself as no one can pronounce his given name) and he always jokes that when he turns 16 he will change it to Klokke cause then he isn't a kid anymore.

Edit.. aaw he just let me know that he passed Gr8

Damn I am so proud of him.. he really pulled finger this last term[emoji122] [emoji122]

Gen this is amazing! Goosebump stuff!
